I have had the update now for over 3000 miles. Drove the truck up from OC CA to Zion park in Utah today. The truck ran perfectly, I am still amazed at the improvement in throttle response and smoother shifting. This is how the truck should have always been.

Made an appt for this afternoon at 2pm for my 10k service and told the lady on the phone I wanted the TSB done and she said I have to bring that up with my service agent at the time of service. So we will see what happens, doesn’t give me a lot of confidence that they will but I’ll fight for it. Anyone from Sonoma County, CA had this done? I’m going to Freeman Toyota.

At the dealer right now waiting ..I called , brought in th tsb , and stated talking points from the tab to the service writer . I'm pretty confident they'll do it . I told them I travel quite a bit , and that it would be really hard to duplicate everything here in the valley where I live ..so just do it !

Edited to note I took mine to Hansel in Petaluma vs. Freeman in Santa Rosa. I took mine in a few weeks ago for my 10K service, blower motor recall swap out, and the TSB for the squeaky leaf springs. Brought in copy of TSB and they performed it with out any questions. Paperwork said they confirmed shifting issues and performed ECU update. Unfortunately, they noted an old TSB number (0077-16) on the paperwork. When I was back the next week for the blower motor install after parts arrived, I asked about the old reference on the paperwork. They were sure it was the most recent, but would check. When I picked it up again, they said it was the most recent, and the paperwork noted that language ("most recent") only. No TSB 0058 or 0062 notation, and no service sticker. I'm going to ask an old mechanic friend to put his scanner on it to confirm, tho. I trust it's the most recent, but their paperwork left a lot to be desired...

Well...it didn't go well. I asked the guy if he wanted a copy of the latest TSB when I got there ...he said no that he had it . ...the dealer is saying that I already had the latest update . I said that was impossible since it just recently came out ....he said it was and that they reflashed it . I confirmed here at home that it is the same cal id i already had ......here in a few minutes I'm going to reflash with my Ovtune . I really only wanted the TSB for service / warranty issues . I think I might reach out to corporate though .

you have to give them the actual TSB otherwise they won't see it. My dealer said the same thing and i then gave him the specific TSB numbers and then he found it. Why this is so hard for dealers I have no clue.

I'm sure you're pretty capable... but is there any chance your truck already had the latest Cal ID? If you have a '16 or '17 the latest is B0400, and if you have an '18 it should be A6100, according to the actual TSB information. Just a shot in the dark thought...

Does anyone have any insight into why dealers are denying install or making it more difficult than it needs to be? The fact that the TSB was issued indicates there is an issue to address. If your vehicle is in the affected pool why the run around other than it being literally minutes of the dealers time? I've never experienced this with other manufacturers and am having a hard time wrapping my head around why they're reluctant to deploy the updated software.

Not really sure... but to add to the question, don't the dealerships get paid from Toyota to perform these types of maintenance items as well, vs. coming out of their service budgets??

I can't speak for Toyota as this is my first experience with them. However, from what I've experienced with other manufacturers (Ford, Audi, VW, GM) they often do, but under certain circumstances namely warranty work from what I've been told.

Something tells me that because this is a TSB (and not safety related) there is process that is required to be followed (diag) and changes to the vehicle are only allowed to be made should the diag confirm an issue. Sounds like a CYA scenario to me, but that's purely a guess at this point.

I brought in the TSB print and described the issue in detail but was told that they could not duplicate the condition.

But this is the same dealership that “inspected my rotors” without removing a wheel, and originally told me that my VIN was not part of the TSB (it was). Side note: avoid Toyota of Dallas.

Any DFW peeps have any recommendations for a place to get this done?

I know everyone praises this TSB but I had mine done about a month ago and wish I never did it. It made this truck almost undriveable in stop and go traffic however it made the throttle response just a bit better. I live near sea level in Houston and wondering if this maybe the issue. It now feels like the 2016 I owned. Anyone here have the same issues?

Can I ask how this made the truck “undeliverable in stop and go traffic”?

I kinda agree. I got the update two days ago and the truck now up shifts like crazy. Theres also a very long hesitation now when I go WOT. It def drives more in the powerband now which is good. It feels quicker. But it upshifts to much. If that makes sense

I got mine done at Hansel Petaluma CA, Freeman is Santa Rosa did not do it. They said I was up to date. B.S. how my 2016 could be up to date on 2018 software?
I have give them lots of business over the years, no more.
The truck does drive better, happy I did it
