Well, I traded my '18 Barcelona Red SHORT bed today for this '18 Magnetic LONG bed. The red was cool, but I knew the day I drove it off the lot that I wished I'd have found a long bed. They are rare in my area. Found this one on a lot in Dallas. Left yesterday afternoon and just got back home...24hrs of driving but DAMN these trucks drive great. Each truck averaged 21 plus for the trips down and back. Not bad for Missouri and Oklahoma hills and cruise set at 75mph. The grey truck was used(on a Ford dealer's lot) but only had 2850 miles on it. My red one had 12k. I play music so the long bed was a must to haul equipment....

I think both the long beds and short beds both look great. The longer bed is just a practical necessity for me. I was lucky to find a used '18.

Small world... Lol. I just bought mine at Bill Utter Ford, in Denton, TX. So if anyone is looking for a nice used '18 TRD OR in Barcelona Red. Hit them up. Ask for Will. He was great to work with. There was NOTHING wrong with the B/Red Tacoma I traded to them except I needed the long bed.

Need advice guys. First a disclaimer. I love this truck and the way it drives, handles, etc. This is my truck for as long as it will drive. The frustration that I have is with the QC of the finish of them at the factory. Mine was built in August at the Baja plant and it looks like the robot spraying the left front fender sneezed while it was painting. There is mottling down the side along the area above the hard edge. It isn’t something I would have seen right away because you can only see it at certain angles and artificial lighting. I picked it up in the early afternoon in the sun a week ago this past Friday and went over it but didn’t see it. The rest of the paint is fine and I hate that my eyes are drawn to it every time I drive.

I don’t want Toyota to replace my truck and I’m not against them respraying the fender and blending it in. I know that respray and repair on new cars happens all the time. This should definitely be a warranty issue and the body shop my dealer uses is top notch and works with the Lexus and Toyota dealers exclusively.

I just wanted to know what you guys would do. I’m pretty particular to how things should look when they’re new and I’m pissed that I missed it. Mottling, clouding, etc in metallic paints sucks. Any advice you guys could give besides just, “It’s a truck! Get out and get it scratched and dirty!” would be great. This is my daily driver and I’d like to keep it looking nice.

My bezel has some molting but only if you stare at it in certain lights. I agree quality has been lacking on the newer trucks. Shame.

I had a 2017 built aug in Baja. I had a couple of spots like your picture. I guess it was the clear coat because they had me bring it back in and buff all the discrepancies out. The only thing I didn’t catch was a small over spray drip by the antenna on the roof.

There may have been some rework done and it passed QC after touch-up. Just be ready for Toyota to call it good enough.
Personally, I wish we could get a "Line-X" version with a heavy-duty coating. I'd be all over that.

I fully intend to push hard for them to warranty it. I believe that the dealership will work with me on this one. Again, the body shop they use is top notch.

Finally got a good photo today to replace the photo the dealer sent me. I freakin LOVE this truck! Only mod so far is a bed mat made from a horse stall mat from Tractor Supply. Much heavier duty than a regular truck mat and only costs $39! Will post a pic if anyone is interested.

Stopped by and saw Service Manager this morning. He took some pics and got some of my pics and is sending it to his rep. Hopefully there will be a positive resolution soon. Respraying part of a new truck is what it is but I’m confident the body shop my dealer uses can do it to where it will never be noticed. I’ll update as it goes through the chain l.

Update. Service manager requested I go ahead and take it to their body shop and get an estimate because he was confident it’s going to be warranties. I pointed out some other areas to the body shop on the truck that looked liked they had some mottling (not as bad as left fender) and they confirmed it’s there. Spoke to service manager again and he said to talk to the sales staff. They are going to see what they can do on their end. At the minimum at least the left fender will be fixed and the front door blended into.

    I’ll keep you guys posted.
