How well do the 3 footer firesticks work? Not liking the overall height of the 4 footer with the spring for where I want to put one.

I just run a 3ft Firestick on a heavy spring with my cobra75 and does just fine. There are several length options to choose. I do run in the forests and trails so why I went 3ft..

    Yeah.
I've tried to help some local Jeepers tune a 3', and last trail run had a guy with a 3'. I'd say unless you are mounting it on the roof, go with a 4'. 4' Firefly + heavy duty spring has worked great for me.

I do just fine..I live next to the foothills of NC and travel from the beach to the mtns..of course the reception is poor in the Mtn valleys. I bought a cheap tuner and did the adjustments myself..I have picked up a guy who said he was over 20 miles away..but that is not the norm.

    Yeah.
Oh, and I just drilled a hole in the bottom of the bed and ran the cable along the frame, through a plug in the floor that is right near the back of the front seat, then under the carpet. The standard 18' cable won't reach the center console unless you go from the grommet directly to the center -- if you run it up to the firewall, it won't go across to the center. I mounted my CB under the left side of the dash, so I didn't need it to go further.

Please show me how you route the cable! Im going with this exact set up. Getting the 3ft fire stick as we speak. How long of a cable do i need? 20ft?

My routing method only gave me enough cable to reach under the passenger seat which was good enough. 18ft cable

    Yeah.
Without a cap or rack, the 3 foot should work fine in that mounting spot. Just don't waste any cable slack, lol.

My 75 is mounted in my center console with the control box stuck on the back inside the cover piece. Mic piece goes thru into center console and it hangs in there on a mic clip. I have hood hinge mount and firering cable with 3' firestick and no spring, since prerunner and not usually in forested areas. My stereo antenna on other side is higher than the cb antenna so I use that for height clearance.

I removed the seats and whatnot to cleanly route the cables, power and ground wire. The kick panel had to come out to get the power wire through the firewall grommet. I wired power straight to the battery. Bitch of it was I have a dual battery set up. The firewall grommet is blocked by the battery so I had to take that all apart too

I was planning to mount it on a drivers side hood bracket. The ditch light style. I already have my HAM on the roof, and wanted to put the 3'er there to balance out the look against the FM antenna on the other side. I just need enough range so I don't get run over by logging trucks when they announce on CB they are coming around blind corners in ID/MT/CAN, or for when the one insistent CB jeeper in our offroad group decides to tag along in the stack.

Funny how an easy project sometimes takes 10X the time just to get set up for it.

If you look, my wire runs in the hole by the light and the bed. I pulled the light out and ran the wire in and down the hole at the bottom. Then I ran the cable down the frame to the plug on the bottom of the driver rear door and in to the cab. May not have enough cable to run to the firewall and then back in the cab.
I have bed stiffeners I could have ran the wire down. You may have to pull the tailgate to get the cable down that way.

After looking at the light, I went that route..
At work now.sorry. Open your tailgate and you can see the space with the light.
