I ordered some Viking double adjustable shocks for the rear. If they work out good I think i am going to replace the single adjustable QA1's on the front with Vikings also.

 

You could do a stem conversion or just order the shock with the stem top and eye bottom or vice versa depending if you want to run them inverted.

 

i looked at viking, but thats more money than i wanna drop for a daily lol

my buddy is gonna try and make me some coilover mounts for now

Thats only $13 more per shock for double adjustable.

I chose a slightly shorter version. They have multiple different sizes available if you know your ride height, extended and collapsed measurement.

OP, You're saying the QA1's have to much Compression and Not enough Rebound?
According to Vi-king the 550# springs you have are for a Big Block mid size car. Don't think an V6 is in the same weight category of an cast iron Big Block... I'm willing to bet that the gutless cast iron 2.7L I4 is as heavy as 4.0L. Plus a coilover spring should have about 25% sag. So a 12" spring should compress to 9" static. *I* think I recall you posting the 600# springs stagged to about 10". The lighter weight springs should help with Compression and Rebound don't you think?
Just a thought why don't you try a softer front spring say 500#. I have a set of QA1 525# springs if you're interested?
Again just a thought and please consider who started building coilovers for these trucks. Don't think they were suspension experts.

Spring rate is 550ppi. I do need a softer spring. But I rather take the chance on double adjustables.

The higher spring rate requires more rebound dampening and less compression dampening.

I could buy 500ppi springs but I don’t like not being able to adjust the rebound and compression separately.

 

I also have air bags in the rear

And the qa1’s were fine before the bags and 40 series tires.

So us with no air bags will be fine!?...

 

I said they were fine not great. Also that is for the rear.

I still get a choppy ride in the front. Which this thread is about.

 

I'm not trying to be a "know it all" but if you're having issues with the ride in the rear that will make the whole truck feel choppy.
I drive a garage trucks for a living and the bigger trucks just have large rubber pads / mounts for rear springs. So until you have a load on the truck it's beat the hell out of you choppy. I think I remember you said you have rear springs with 2" blocks. Also I think you said you can't cut / notch the frame where you live. Ever think about removing the bump stops & plates from the frame and trying the long hydraulic bump stops the off-road guys use?
I can't install my QA1 susp. now so I'm trying to find someone else to give us real world feedback! The hydraulic bump stops are controlled with air "I THINK" but truthfully don't know much about them other then they are not cheap.
I can't install my suspension now because of hand surgery that I'm waiting for them to heal. I have to use both hands just to turn the key to start the truck. At least I can pickup my fav. adult beverage!

 

This is why i am going to start with the rear, I am confident that the double adjustables will fix the ride in the rear. It might only be the rear that needs to be fixed and it could be causing the whole truck to be choppy. But if they work out good I am most likely going to replace the front also, I like to have matching parts on the truck also.

Now that you have had the front springs installed and put some miles on the truck could you please give me a front spring measurement compressed? I'm sure it will be a pain in the ass but I need it to find the proper front spring rate. I have been researching spring rates and making calls. You should get 25 to 30% sag in a coilover spring. If you can give me your best possible measurement I would be very grateful!

Also I'm trying to come up with a design for the brake line mounts that won't twist / move.

Also I got some viking replacement front shocks coming in also, this should be a direct replacement for current QA1's.

I think the last time you told me you only got about 2" of sag with the 550# springs.
I haven't had time to pickup the front mounts at the Powder Coaters but, they are just like XII less the machining for the 3 nuts and bolts. He also machine out the large thru bolt to 5/8" so I can now use SS hardware just got to make sure I use anti-seize so they don't weld together. Don't want rust when I pull the wheels off to clean the undercarriage for show and shines after the URD super charger is installed.

 

Got current far away pic next to a stock x runner or tacona?

 

Tacoma? Shock suggest for front and back for a base model with 4 cylinder engine?
