Unfortunately it looks like the asshole that caused the crash walked away with the least amount of damage. I bet the Ford is just fine after a new grille, bumper, hood, and radiator cover. Hard to tell but doesn't look like much.

Not here in Houston. I was involved in a five car accident. I was the fifth and last one that got hit. An old men driving a Chevy hit the gas instead of the breakes at a red light. His insurance paid to all of us. My truck rear bumper got a little damage, not as bad as the OP, but enough to cause damage to the frame. Looks like OP's truck is totaled. However if they want to repair it, he should ask for diminished value.

I agree. I was in a three car accident with myself being the one in the front. Camry hit a Jeep which hit me. Her insurance footed the entire bill for the Jeep and my vehicle.

I’ll bet a Colorado with its fully boxed frame would of taken that rear ending better. Colorado frame is stiffer and there for “stronger” since it’s boxed. Do you think a person in a Colorado would of felt a greater impact?

Get an attorney, dealing with insurance companies sucks balls. I would’ve asked for an ambulanve to get checked out. Insurance companies are out to screw everyone. The driver of the Ford looks like he didn’t slow down at all. The GMC and Taco are probably totaled, the Ford driver better have good insurance. Good luck to that stupid ass Ford driver, hope his future rates go throught the roof.

So many factors. You keep coming back because I was explaining how physics work. If you're arguing about that, we're done here.

Hey guys, I talked with my insurance agency and was wondering what the best course of action I should take.

1.) Go through my insurance and have them handle it with the other parties involved (Ford + GMC).
2.) Go directly to Ford's insurance (One who rear-ended the GMC who hit my car).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

When I got rear ended in my brand new Tundra with less than 3k miles at a redlight by a 16yr old who wasn’t paying attention, I ended up going through my insurance after 3 days of run around with Allstate who was dragging their feet on who was at fault and if I should get a rental. It was a mess. So just depends, have the other insurance company reached out to you?

Other than my own insurance company, none of the others have reached out to me thus far.

You pay your insurance company, let them fight it out with the other companies. Make sure you get checked out at doctors and they will battle it out for you

It was like pulling teeth to get the Allstate adjuster and agent to call me back or answer emails. I even pulled police report and they told me that the police report had to come from their customer and not me? Called mine and they had me in a rental and truck in the shop within an hour

Sounds like you are ok OP. I have been rear ended twice while at a complete stop on the freeway. Once in a Honda CRX and once in the same situation as yours in a Scion tC.
The first time the driver sped off but I was able to get his plates. He turned out to not have any insurance so no one wanted to waste their time trying to recover money the guy didnt have.

The second time, I was also at a complete stop and was rear ended by a car that was coming to a stop. That car was rear ended by a F350 who was not paying attention or fell asleep (this was around 5am). My insurance took care of everything. I am sure they went after the middle car and the middle car went after the last car.

I am sorry you found yourself in this situation. Having had experienced two rear endings, I look to the bed of this truck as a cushion for these kinds of accidents. Especially now when I am driving around with two kids.

While the damage looks bad, I hope the bed soften the blow up for you. After my accidents, I had a sore wrist. I now let got of the steering wheel when I am at a stop and I see a car approaching fast. Also from the impacts jamming my wrist, it also jammed my shoulder blade.

tldr; in my similar situation, I left it to my insurance and they took care of everything.

In my accident I had AAA (my insurance) deal with the other insurance companies. I was the middle car in a 3 car. No problems in my case.

I was rear ended a few years ago in my Tacoma and was pushed into a car, which then pushed into the car in front of it (4 cars in total). The person who hit me was responsible for it all and their insurance covered all of our repairs. We were all stopped at a light and he smashed into me full speed.

I would definitely go through your insurance and then have them fight for you. You might temporarily be out your deductible, but you should get that back once fault is determined. Your repairs get done sooner, you get more say over the repair shop used, and you let someone else deal with the insurance negotiations.

Once I got the police report and sent to my insurance company, they told me not to worry about deductible as they were going after Allstate for everything. So OP make sure you have police report handy when you contact your insurance co so they know you weren’t at fault

Yes, thank you. When I talked to my insurance company the other day, it was ruled out that I was not the one at fault.

Great! At this point then, I’d just go through your insurance and let them nickle and dime the other insurance companies

    Not necessarily.

They may be weak but designed to do so.
Frame bends as does much of the vehicle to absorb all the impact making it where the occupants can walk away now days.

Years ago what would be limited damage on a vehicle led to people being off work etc due to injury if not severely injured because their body took all the impact.

Material things are much cheaper and easier to replace than loss wages or even more loss of life.

Yes, as unfortunate as it was to be in the accident and for all the parties involved, everybody being able to walk out with little to no injury was a miracle. Especially for the people in the GMC.
