Not sure if this was already covered in this thread, but since the Garrett turbos are a no go, could there possibly be something to replace them? I personally would like a kit to bridge the 400hp base kit and the 650hp top kit. I would be relatively interested in the middle range kit

Why twins? Seems like a ton of work for 75hp. And at what cost?
I mean I'm not knocking anything here just seems again like overkill. Plenty of room up front for a centrifugal. Easy install and unless people are building internals there's no reason for twins on this.
Hope you sell a lot maybe get into the piston buss

    1. It’s nearly impossible to supercharge this engine, magnuson has been trying for years and refuse to say anything.
    2. The turbos will produce at least 150hp, mat said he would be embarrassed to release a turbo setup that only makes 75hp
    3. I recommend reading all of the info mat has posted in this thread and the OVTune thread about this engine

Why would it be impossible to supercharge but turbo ok? That doesn't even make sense really supercharger is much more predictable.
Don't think enoug is known about internals of this engine. Over 400 hp on stock internals sounds like a hand grenade to me.
Just made more sense to me for ease of install and cost. If he has ecu figed and knows maxes of stock setup less maybe injectors it's just a bracket and some plumbing. Manifolds are going to be a mofo in this truck from what I see

Yes sir, you know far more about this subject than anyone else sir. Even the guy who’s tuning these trucks and putting the turbos on sir. Sorry to impede on your vast knowledge sir.

So many snowflakes on here it's crazy. Waiting to pounce cause I asked a question. I was just curious in the choice for reasons said prior.

Snowflakes? Wut? You came in asking dumb questions about why he designed the kit the way he did, in a thread for people actually interested in his kit. What "you" think is better means diddly. He has explained his reasons time and time again. If you're truly curious, read through the thread.

Kings, 275/70/17, a few custom items, lots of Meso mods.
I think he went turbos because that's what he is into and familiar with. This engine is similar to the Lexus turbo so it might have a lot of parts that already fit? This would make it easier and cheaper than making new custom parts. Just my thoughts

Your ineptitude in this forum is rivalled only by someone who haphazardly wanders into a zoo, to ask the question, "Why are there elephants here? This is kansas."

    1. You would have to be very bad at your job to put out only 75hp with TWIN turbos. Think Homer Simpson bad.

    2. Toyota makes the same engine for a lexus, with, count 'em, TWO turbos. It makes, wait for it... 416 ponies, and 446 torques.

    3. You came into this thread spouting ignorant nonsense, don't get butthurt for not doing any reading first.

There's no reason a supercharger couldn't be done, if I had to guess it lies more in the realm that Magnuson simply doesnt have the ability to tune this configuration yet. It took them forever to figure out the 1GR in the 4runners and FJs. It would seem there's also more R&D required for fabricating the SC housing.

Turbos are nice though because they tend to be more efficient than superchargers, producing more power at lower pressure levels. They can also produce earlier and flatter torque curves than some of the SC configurations out there. Ultimately though I think it's just a preference thing since there are pros and cons to both.

I wonder how much of the avoidance to building a super charger for this engine comes from just that... R&D/Tooling/manufacturing money in vs. potential market (from Magnuson or any other sellers). If they're looking at tooling up for a big run at a factory for manufacturing, the bean counters might just want a return on investment that nobody can prove is there. In that respect, wouldn't turbo charger(s) be easier to roll out from a smaller seller? Build a couple prototype/proof of concept manifolds and intercooler piping kits, contract production out to somebody who does it for everybody. From there you could use off the shelf parts for the rest of the kit, tune and deliver to us, the ridiculous few who REALLY wanna go fast!

As a note, I have no idea what I'm talking about most times... this time is no different.

Centrifugal supercharger? Those aren’t really known for making much low rpm power and torque which is what this truck really needs. The Vortech centrifugal on my Thunderbird is at about it’s max internal rpm at 6000 engine rpm and it doesn’t see boost at all until nearly 2500 rpm.

Manifolds are probably going to be a pretty simple component for this kit, actually. Having a single exit port for the exhaust at the cylinder head means that the “manifold” should really only need to be a short adapter for the turbo to mount to.

Are the transmissions and other drivetrain components even rated for the predicted 400+ HP/torque?

Our clutches wont survive a normal service life with that power.

I imagine they would. The work would go into fabricating the exhaust manifold, which would be easier to make and produce. Piping is easy.

Then replace the clutch as needed or go aftermarket. Aftermarket custom upgrades require custom maintenance, as the saying goes. Or, gotta pay to play.
