Put 255/85/16s on stock OR wheels and suspension

I’m in Oregon and it got cold here too when I did it. I put a space heater about 6ft away and kept the garage cracked. It can look really nice all said and done. This is after almost a year and a half. Off-roading and street. Cleaning and taping is the part that’s the hardest. Patience is key

 

I was going the stock OR route but could not find anyone who ran the set up with 1.25 spacers. So I held off until I saw someone run skinny on aftermarket wheels and then went the same route. I just wanted to post here to thank everyone for the great info in this thread, helped me get to where I wanted to truck to be. The first fill up was computer calculated since the tank was not full so I had no idea how many gallons I would run. Every other fill up was hand calculated but its still not accurate, I would have to track my miles with a different tool to get the exact MPGs. But I used to fill up once a week before on stock set up and I still do on the same day. So even if my MPGs did change its very minimal that I cant really notice.

 

Thanks to everyone who added to this thread and other skinny tire topics here, I got my pizza cutters installed today and couldn't be happier with the initial results. 255/85/16 Cooper ST Maxx on my stock 2017 SR5. Caster set at roughly 3.4* both sides without any rubbing at all. Currently at 34 psi but will chalk test soon and likely air down a bit. Spare is a bit close to the exhaust as shown, but I'm not currently worried about heat.

 

I haven’t swapped out my spare but I’m getting one this week. Did you have to do any hammering/bending to ge it up there, or just carefully guide it in?

 

If you hate mud terrains, look into the cooper discoverer ST Maxx, they are considered an all terrain mud. They ride nice and road noise is very very minimal coming off the stock Goodyear adventures. I feel you on the PITA statement so just for you I’ll post my pics. I’m still on stock rims and suspension.

 

Love the look but how are ya'll dealing with the speedo variation with these larger tires, or are you? I guesstimate it to be about an 8% error (your going faster than the speedo reads).

I think the tire calculator around here will tell you the speedo difference between the tore sizes you plug into it then you can keep a ballpark in your head for local/hwy driving. It'll also throw off the odometer so it'll appear that your mpg didn't change much when it actually dropped a bit.

 

Drive the speed limit ... according to the truck. That way you're only going a few mph over. Like you would likely be doing regardless.

 

It's reading about 7-7.5% slower than actual. So computer MPG will actually show less than actual. If you reset your trip odometer at fill up, add 7% to your trip total miles and then divide by gallons to get actual MPG. I am still routinely hitting close to 20 or slightly over with these tires. My last 2 tanks showed 18.9 prior to adjustment and then 20.2 mpg after accounting for actual distance traveled for the tank. This is with OV tune and premium FYI and at altitude which also seems to be a factor. I also have a GPS in my truck that I tend to use for actual speed.

I went with Hypertech's speedometer calibrator. It was $200 and took about 10 minutes to program and install. It has worked great for getting everything to read properly (speedo, odo ect).

Lots of people here have used it as well and I can't say i've heard any bad things about it.

I did this and can vouch for it to. It’s an easy install and spot on the numbers.

 

so does it stay plugged into the OBD port under the dash?

 

You actually plug the main harness going to the cluster into it then in turn plug it into the cluster. After programming it that is, but then yes, it stays plugged in and you never know it's there.

 

But how am I gonna use my ultragauge?

 

The hypertech doesn't plug into the OBD port, it goes inline to the actual gauge cluster. once you get it behind the dash you'll forget it's even there.

They look good! Two questions: Are you still on stock suspension? What kind of rock sliders are you running there?
