If any of y'all have hit a deer I hope you are all right. But I am wondering how well the 3rd gen fair against deer, and large game. I just moved out to the middle of nowhere in Utah and its essentially open range as far as the eye can see in all directions.

I figure its only a matter of time before one jumps into the road and gets blasted by my speeding truck. would that total the truck? And if I put on an ARB bumper or something of that nature would that spare my truck? I have good insurance so it wont be the end of the world. But I like my truck how it is and don't wanna have to start over... unless I get a hold of a 2019 with the desert air intake...

Just line the deer up between the headlights if you can’t stop in time or swerve to miss it.

Been in a collision with a deer vs F150 at 75 mph. Doesn't matter what you drive, it's a lose/lose.

I’m gonna say not well. The crumple zones factored with lots of open plastic space, a 150lb+ animal and 45mph impact will more than likely stop a Tacoma in its tracks. Take a look at my profile pic, 45mph impact on passenger side fog light destroyed my passenger side suspension

Often they are jumping as they cross, they go through big rig windshields. The best thing to do is limit driving at dusk and dawn and drive posted speed limits in wildlife areas.

Yeah was behind and beside a truck that hit a mule dear in Colorado coming down the hill into the city and the mule dears head pretty much exploded, then I ran over the carcass as it was ejected out to the side of the truck that hit it. Was going around 65 ... glad I was in a jeep wrangler 4x4... that deer was in a million pieces some of which were all over my rental.

I been in Utah hah ha haaa for a while now and have seen many roadkill deer's along the side of the roads and most of them are from Night hits so what I did was search (local hunters) and find out what time frame the deer's are most active in my area and since I do not always have a choice to avoid the high activity time frame I do stay more alert and ready for em if in the area and time frame they are most active. the area I drive thru it has been most active between 1:00 Am - 4:00 Am less traffic then.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Saw someone run over the body of a squirrel as it was crossing the road and it blowed it’s little head right off its little body like a meat firecracker

When I lived in Pennsylvania I always had a deer guard on my Pathfinder. It first came into use when I let the wife drive and she tangled with a big Buick in Lewistown PA. She took the entire grill of the Buick out, and did not touch the Pathfinder. Fast forward about 6 years and I was driving (at dusk) in Illinois and globbered a large buck, maybe going 30-40 MPH. Killed him but only bent my deer guard and knocked out a parking light. I say it's well worth buying one. At 70 MPH, your on your own buddy. Proof on the deer is below.

Hit 2 deer with my previous Tundra at dusk during rut. Posted elsewhere on this forum. Saw an 18 wheeler fuel truck on the side of the road in central Texas this morning...the whole deer was plastered on the massive front grill of the Mack. Steam was spewing from all corners of the grill due to a bashed in radiator. I think the deer was steamed medium well! I tend to drive on the centerline when no traffic so I can dodge either way in the dark.

Hit a blue heron going 40. luckily hit left headlight, bumper below and head slapped onto hood. headlight survived, hood no dent, but it pushed in plastic above bumper and knocked out fog lamp.
Was a decent size heron. I have hit several deer years ago. Most likely a body hit on a deer to the grill is going to equal a hit to the radiator and coolers if you have tow pkg etc.
I should seriously have an ARB bumper that has the side fender wrap arounds for strength. Deer are everywhere lately. But, do we ponder the air bag sensors? Probably a thread on that eh?
Then again, when going 50+ and a head on collision occurs, the big aftermarket bumper will only cause a millisecond airbag triggering delay.

Wow, interesting what might’ve spooked that 6pt’er to be running like that late in the morning

That cyclist is extremely lucky, that buck would have taken him out if he was just peddling a little slower

Most damage to vehicles and most injuries and fatalities are due to running into fixed obstacles or into other vehicles while trying to avoid hitting a deer.
    Don't veer for deer.
