What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Good work detective, some were gone. Some sheared, can’t remember the exact numbers

 

I have first hand experience of this lower ball joint failure, I was super lucky it was pulling out of my driveway and not 10 min later getting on the highway. All the damage was just a bent up passenger side fender and stabilizer bar links replaced, new ball joint, realignment. When I fixed the driver side I didn't have the cash to do passenger side and waited too long before getting to it.
Like you say, depending on how they wear, can show little signs of failure, true as could be.

Wow! Like you said, good thing you were not going fast when this failure happened! Need to replace mine soon and going OEM.

 

I seriously couldnt be more thankful, not only for mine and others safety on the road, but that my baby was okay and not destroyed.

Also I should mention; that was the OEM balljoint from what I have gathered, if thats indeed the case, that balljoint had approx. 330,000 mile on it before failure. So i'm in the camp of GO WITH OEM!!!

 

It's a poor design overall that Toyota corrected on 2nd gens (which is why you never hear of this happening on 05+)... but when you're dealing with a poor design you should at least use quality parts, so my vote goes toward OEM as well.

 

Not only did the LBJ break but you also cracked the pavement. Jeeze man, up you’re maintenance game!

 

They made the radio to fix this

 

Nuked all three fusible links in all 3 power outlets on dash. What fun that was. Bypassed,,and not looking back. Nice little stack of Mica insul washers on the table. Another bad tick on the Tacoma chart. Why Toyota?. Afraid of juice warming the wires to the fusebox and popping the 15A,,like it should??. I think so. Hmmm. Adding 10ga and 40 amp fuses. Problem solved. Maybe.

 

Caught the Blue Angels flying in formation over I-880 North towards Oakland today on my Dashcam.

 

I guess no one has adopted that highway. Is there always that much trash on the shoulder?
