Rust on Frame with A/C drain mod fix

Anyone in San Diego care to help me out with this? It would be my first mod on the truck. There are brewery meets in San Diego on Thursdays, or we can arrange a different time to meet. I have enough materials to do it twice, so hopefully we can bring in another 3rd gen that needs to complete this mod too (for free). I'm not looking for someone to do it for me, just help me out. I know its a simple mod, just wanted to have someone around who has done it to their own truck.

 

Mine drips with the heater on and not using the A/C.

 

Yikes That's what I been finding out so all the more reason to get that darn dripping away from the frame as long as it has the downward angle it should not fill up and freeze in the winter.

 

I did mine at home and can help next weekend or at the brewery meet. Do you have the hose and clamp yet?

 

I've got everything ready to go, seeing that the truck needs to be cold, I can get to the brewery meet early and let it cool down.

This mod is crazy. I just rattle can quick sprayed rust killer, then undercoated the small area on weld joints as well as others spots. My opinion is that road grime, dust, etc. will go up the extended mod tube and plug it up, thats why the drain is up high. After a year or so, you will see surface rust everywhere underneath simply from rain water on roads. Ford, GM, Chrysler, Nissan, VW, etc. trucks and autos as well, no big deal.

 

A/C drain water is far more corrosive due to its altered chemical state.

 

AC water is just condensation that has built up. Its actually probably cleaner than most folks tap water. That being said, cleaner water tends to have a higher PH lvl making it more acidic.

What did you guys use to clean out the existing rust?

 

Just wire brush the area and spray some good rust converter paint over it.

 

What's a good rust converter paint?

 

Use some rustoleum rust converter. I also then used rustoleum paint after the converter dried, then fluid filmed. Seems to hold up well.

And spray from the road isn’t altered?

 

Depends on where you are, i.e. coastal, snow conditions, rain forest, etc. So, it depends.

 

Gas, oil spills, radiator fluid, etc on the road is more what I was thinking.

 

That would also be true, but I forgot about those.

 

I'd be more worried about those than some A/C condensation.
