I just put an All Terrain pop up camper on my Tacoma 2014 and, alas, the tailgate had to go. I’m missing my backup camera, which came equipped in my Taco. What at is the best way to replace it? I would like to just plug it into the existing wiring. Any suggestions?

You can buy the harness from Toyota (about $30), but buy the camera from eBay (aftermarket) another $60. The OEM camera is about $250 IIRC, but aftermarket options work just as well.

That’s the cheapest option I’ve found. Unless you still have your tailgate and can scavenge both out of it. (Free).

OK, thanks for this feedback! Heck, I never thought about using the camera from the tailgate— that opens up some possibilities. I need some translations to decifer the rest of your comments— 1/ what’s the harness and why do I need it?, 2/ what does OEM and IIRC mean?

The harness is the wiring that is already inside your tailgate that connects the camera on the handle to the plug behind your bumper.
If you still have your tailgate, you can remove the inner panel to access these items and take the camera and harness together and install is wherever you choose without having to buy anything.

Thanks a million! This has really been helpful. Now the trick is to figure out how and where to mount it on the back of the camper. I’ll post later if it works out.
