Wow took that long? Huh. How are you going to be dealing with tuning on the ECU side?

 

Didn’t someone on here unlock the ecu for 03-04 5vzfes?

 

NisTune, with a little soldering of a daughter board to the computer I can plug a USB cable in and tune all the parameters on the fly as I drive. And I can even add new features like 2 step, boost by gear, and let it learn it's own fuel map as it drives by reading from an aftermarket modern wideband O2 rather than the primitive narrowband it has now. It will be able to tune more accurate than Nissan could have at the factory in the 80s and early 90s. So many things this ecu can do now that people have cracked them. No piggybacks or aftermarket computers needed here, it can understand different injector sizes, different MAF and temp sensors. It's basically like a jailbroken iPhone haha, it becomes a tool that can do so much.


Just imagine if someone unlocked the secret to programming our taco ecus, we wouldn't need piggybacks and aftermarket ecus so often then just to play with boost

 

Do you think our ECU's will ever be unlocked? Is it even possible?

 

I dunno, that's tough work. Lots of reverse engineering just staring at binary values and then making software to manipulate it. Problem is Toyota uses multiple modules, it's not just one processor and eeprom.

 

Are other Toyotas of the same era like this to? That's unfortunate.

 

Tiny subgroups are similar, like even my ECU and yours are different. Distributor 3rz used mfi so only two injector drivers and they fire in batches where's yours can address each injector individually, so that would suggest the ECU are probably different as well in their programming and electrical topography

 

So these piggyback ECU's, they essentially interrupt the stock ECU signals and replace it with whatever you program it to do?

Yeah, depending on what they're doing they either intercept and control things themselves or they feed the stock ecu false information to make it do what the piggy wants. All depends on what your doing.

 

Bout to pull of the passenger side head, pretty sure the HG on this side is fine but if you're doing one you do both

This head will get serviced like the other too, block should be fine but I'll check that it is flat within spec. I'll clean the carbon of the piston tops and check for bore roundness and taper. But unless something is just totally hashed like a scratched cyl wall or something I'm leaving it alone.

What do you think of those drill attachments you can use to hone the cylinders yourself?
