it Felt like I hit an IED. The factory jack is a joke. Time for a hi lift. Looking to get the Wilco off road hitch gate with hi lift mount asap. What would be the best idea for front axle. This piece of shrapnel went clean through the friggin wheel!

It was gnarly....right over the crest of a hill. near exit 180. Tight shoulder. Dangerous as hell. 18 wheelers, rvs rocking the Tacoma as they go by at 85 mph. Not a fun thing

You ran over something that went thru your tire and then thru the wheel??

Huh.. I can't think of anything that could actually do that. Just to go thru your tire with steel plies would be impressive but to also blow a hole thru your wheel?? Wow... that sounds crazy. Did the shrapnel hit your fender liner?

That is insane. My first thought was, has to be defective tire. Then I saw the hole on your wheel . Those are pretty tough tires. I mean I’ve seen people destroy their front end suspension and the coopers were still ok. This looks like vandalism (some one left something on the road on purpose).

It was about 5 pm last night. I live in south county, on my way to wife’s 20 year reunion in Farmington. She was already down there with boys, I was just going to meet her. She was not happy to say the least

Damn. You hit something hard for it to go through the wheel.

as for the hi-lift it is even more useless unless you have lift points on aftermarket armor that you can use. There is a thread on here discussing a better bottle jack option. Much safer and more convenient. Yes you do loose some cool factor though

An unusually high amount of pinstriping.
o_O I've had a lot of flats over the years, including running over a railroad spike, but you've got me beat with a hole through the wheel. Instead of the factory jack I use a bottle jack. It's a lot easier to use.

    Mods? Yes, oh yes..
YES! Bottle jack for the MFW. I have BOTH and need both, but the bottle jack gets 95% of the love. The hi-lft weighs a metric ton, perfect for throwing your back out while you are just trying to change a tire and its there when I need it, hopefully never. We wont discuss the hifift and slipping and having a truck fall down part. been there. no thanks.

edit: was there any debris besides rubber and alum chunks inside? I am guessing something hard like tool steel or a grade8 bolt.

Eh. The stock jack works as a jack. I made cross bars for the bed out of a 10ft 2x8. I'm going to run a couple carriage bolts through the remaining chunk to make a foot for it.

If you use a bottle Jack. Keep a small piece of ply wood with you. The small surface area on the Jack can dent your frame.

I guess if the thing was so pointy and hard that your tire fully compressed and smashed the wheel.. Were your tires under inflated or anything? Railroad spike sounds about right lol

I've hit potholes so hard in my delivery truck around NJ that it felt like the whole subframe should've been ripped off but junk just keeps going.

Damn...I blew an ST Maxx right after I got them mounted on a trail at 11kft, but it was from a sidewall puncture. You must have really hit something hard and sharp (or explosive) to do that kind of damage. Glad everyone's ok
