The towing capacity varies greatly depending on the package you get, and that’s true of all the F150s, not just the ones with the 2.7L. Also, pay attention to the payload. They can rate it to tow 50k lbs but most can’t handle the tongue weight of a 5k lb trailer. The Tundra has a low payload, which I did not like. A lot of F150s have low payloads standard also, but there is an available heavy payload package.

The other thing is the book payload is never the payload you get. That's based on a truck with no options at all. Every option costs some weight and there will be a sticker on your door frame with the actual number.

Brochure says 1640 lb payload for my config, similar to the Tundra (1630 for a truck comparable to mine), but the door sticker is around 1500.

The 2.7 is basically one step above a midsize, one step below most full sizes in payload/towing specs (the 5.0 and 3.5 are over 3k higher in towing numbers). Realistically, the numbers on the 2.7 were plenty for me and I cared more about how it is as a daily driver. There, it's outstanding. I almost never see anything below 23 MPG and it's a seriously quick truck.

The truck was 11440 lbs on the scale with that trailer and car. The GCWR is 13300. So, subtracting a 200 lb driver (I think that's the number they use) I still had 1660 lbs of room. That'd put me at around 8060 lbs potential towing. I probably have 40 lbs of miscellaneous stuff in the truck too, so the towing vs GCWR is dead on.

Are the driveshaft issues we are seeing the transits, showing up in the f150?

Ya the one I’m looking at says it has 3.73s. I’m mostly interested in the efficiency since I have a long commute daily but I also want it to be able to tow a boat no issues if I end up getting one next year. Thanks for the input

Not sure where you went, but Chris Church at Haddad Toyota service department in Pittsfield has taken care of my turd gen issues for me. They did the transmission flash and the leaf springs for me. Would probably do the rear diff howl but I don't care about that. I did have to push a little for the flash, but they did it without me having to do ride alongs for anything. Again, not sure of your issues, or where you have tried, but he's been good to me. I think @DrFunker has had good experience with him too maybe.

So went to work yesterday and decided to check out the house site since it's right there, and what a shock to find that the concrete guys (shout out to grady and jennings) were working on a Saturday and pulling my forms off. Monday is waterproofing and backfilling/driveway work. Really crazy how fast they are moving, we had the foundation dug, poured and now done in 6 work days. Contractor lets me help if its dumb labor and they are down a guy due to a ruptured disk, so I will be helping waterproof the foundation with them. I'm not super knowledgeable about building so I really appreciate getting to learn from and work with my contractor as they build things, I've learned a lot in the last couple years with them.

Got two meetings today, a memorial for my wife's something or other and then my parents anniversary/my mothers birthday dinner tonight. Gonna be a long day today after a long one yesterday...but life is good so I won't be complaining!

Not really any major issues. Just want a better shift calibration living in the hills.

    I'll keep that in mind.

    Thanks.

    And awesome on the foundation.

I can third that. Chris is great.

I forget who I dealt with for tires, but they were good too. I was there probably three hours because their compressor failed. They got the truck up, the old tires dismounted, then they couldn't do anything until it was fixed.

No fault of their own, but when it was done he said he was only charging the cost of the tires, no labor because I was there for so long.

That's what I was after too. I drive at least 50 miles per day, so the 23 MPG I am seeing is great for that. But, I do tow a few times a year so I wanted something with a rating a little higher than I would see myself needing.

The truck has a few quirks (minor things) but I would not change a thing about the drivetrain, it is perfect.

If you can get that tranny flashed, it's like a new truck. I drive rt 2 every day up and down hills and around corners, it used to suck and I had to use sport mode constantly. I only use it now to control my downshifting to save my brakes, don't use ect unless I am towing anymore either. Holds gears wayyyy better going up hills. The only questions they had when I went for the flash was they thought my 18 might have already come with the updated flash as I guess a lot of them do now. Mine was built before that though, so after I insisted they just CHECK they realized I was right and did it no problem.

1 quart per 5,000 is under spec, but it's still upsetting me. I can also smell something in the vents during normal driving that smells like coolant but it passes the pressure test and unsurprisingly the dealer cannot smell anything.

I want to do the flash for the MT as I've heard a lot of positive experiences about having a linear power curve and it helps the truck not feel like it's got a turbo, which would be amazing as I really dislike the power curve on this one. However, since the TSB is worded more towards the automatic I doubt I'll get anywhere with it.

I had a tec acknowledge my issue and state he was aware of the flash, but because my issues where not able to replicated and nothing came up on the health check, they wouldn't flash it.

Exactly. Fully what I expect to have happen. I feel bad for AT owners in general. I thought the 2G trucks didn't shift correctly, or at least the later ones, so I can only imagine what the 3G guys have to deal with.

Right now I’m driving about 50 miles each way to work. The MPG would be great. Plus we got a little one due in December so the extra space for a car seat and such would be an added bonus. I’ve heard really nothing but good things about the 2.7 except the occasional leaky oil pan which would be under warranty anyways

Related to that, changing the oil is annoying. The cartridge filter and plastic drain plug are fine, but they put a sway bar right in front of the drain plug, so it makes a huge mess. Someone has to have a trick, but I haven't looked it up to find one yet.

Meh, overall I still like the 2G more than the 3G. I miss my bumper and roll bar, though. The 2G Pro suspension makes the truck.
