This dog was said to be vicious, I don't see it. I personally would have been much worse if 2 guys were swarming around me trying to put a tether around my neck. I think they are pieces of shit. But would like to hear from some officers that may have been in similar situations.

It is mild violence. Most of the vid is them looking like they have never handled an animal before then I suppose they got confirmation that they could shoot it. It was quick and at the very end of the vid. But you can see for the first 6 minutes the dog is certainly not vicious just trying to get away.

Oh and I'm not a cop hater, they have a tough job but still need to use judgement calls.

That's what I thought. I watched for a couple of minutes and decided I didn't want to see the dog get shot. I turned it off about where the dog just laid down and started chilling out.

They are idiots if they think that dog was vicious.. There was no need for that. If that would have been my dog, they better have killed me too

really????? that did not just happen??????? let me put a noose on thier neck and see if they bug the fuck out.what did they expect from the dog.he was scared.why bother hooking him if they were just going to shoot him.i really hope they lose their job for that.without knowing what happened before this video its really hard to justify what he did.i do not trust anyones dog but my own, but call the animal control and let them handle it.the dog was leashed anyway. those to fucking squids should lose their jobs for that.

Doesn't look like they had a plan once they caught the dog . We have animal control officers to deal with this kind of stuff, but I suppose we would have to deal with it if they weren't working. I hate to Monday Quarterback because I don't know all of the circumstances, like were the Police there because the dog just mauled another dog or person? I'm curious if he was on the phone with a supervisor who gave him the authority to put the dog down if they couldn't get it under control. Lots of questions need to be answered for me before I would pass judgement on a video clip. Video can look bad a lot of the time without any other information

Since when are police responsible for animal-control...?

The dog was restrained, why don't they wait for trained professionals..?

Very amateur-ish on the cops part. He should have to watch his dog die also...

The vid is only 6 mins long, what happened before that. Did it attack someone?
You cant judge the dog as vicious or not in that video.

I was going to say what Nathan said. The cops got called to deal with the dog in some way, we just don't know why.

If it bit someone and didn't have its shots, they need to test the dog and the owner wouldn't cooperate for example.

No we don't know what happened before, but even if it had bit someone, that doesn't give you justice to up and shoot an animal who is showing no signs of aggression towards you, Animal control comes and takes care of the situation, Plus from the looks of the attitude of the dog, someone would have had to have been mistreating the animal for it to harm them..

I mean hell imagine if someone came up and wrapped something around your neck would you not try to pull it off or try to get out of it? When the dog laid down that should show you he had no intention of attacking someone(or anyone else).

    Heres my thoughts

1st...a lot of people are questioning why Animal Control isnt called out, but many small municipalities dont have AC or their police department is animal control (would explain why the officer had access to the loop to catch the dog

2nd...from another perspective...its possible that the dog is rabid etc...

Like some others have said...all we have is 6 minutes of video with no audio so we dont know WHY the officers are even out there

If they shot it just to shoot it or because they didnt know what else to do...thats one thing...but you simply cannot get the entire story by watching 6 minutes of a dash cam

I understand that a video is poor for making a call in such a situation but. Vicious this dog is certainly not. If it did just wildly attack a person for no reason do you think it would be this well behaved? Most of the time it was being very calm. I do not tollerate human aggression unless provoked. I'm more pissed about how they handled it. Don't call it aggressive, if it was this would have played out differently. I never saw it lunge or even go towards the officers. She was just trying to leave the situation and was unable to.
Here is more info I was able to find.
    http://www.wgem.com/global/story.asp?s=12667188
LaGRANGE, Mo. (WGEM) -- The LaGrange Police Department is defending the actions of its officers highly criticized by the community after a video surfaced on YouTube and Facebook showing its officers shooting an American Bulldog in the head.
LaGrange Police Chief Dale McNelly told WGEM News the two officers involved in the shooting of the dog are not currently facing any citations, but said the St. Louis Humane Society is conducting their own investigation and the police will be undergoing retraining to learn how best to handle future situations.
(See 'LaGrange police criticized for dog shooting video')
McNelly defended his officers actions and says that shooting the dog was a necessary last resort.
"They had a difficult situation," McNelly said. "And really it's hard to say and second guess when you're not there. And I believe they did what they had to do and I'm going to stand behind them on that point."
Chief Dale McNelly says his officers we're forced to shoot the American Bulldog owned by Marcus Mays because the dog was being aggressive and wouldn't cooperate.
"We don't have an option to let the dog go if it's an aggressive or vicious dog and if we can't load it or get it somewhere where we can put it in confinement, then we have to handle the call right there."
He also says the YouTube video doesn't paint a true picture of what happened, including the dog acting aggressively towards officers during an attempt to load the dog into the truck. He said the dog was also acting aggressively off camera.
"A lot of the aggressiveness from what I saw, part of it was off camera," McNelly said.
McNelly says shooting an animal is a last resort, he called the officers animal lovers and said they were upset with what they felt they had to do.
"You know, I'm not saying it's a perfect scenario because we don't ever want to go around shooting people's pets and that's not what we're about," McNelly said. "What we do is we have to control the situation at the time."
While neither of the officers involved has been reprimanded, a full investigation of their actions is underway.
"What we're asking the Humane Society of the State of Missouri to do, to come in and scrutinize what we've done to make sure what we've done is what had to be done at the time."
The owner of the dog, Marcus Mays, appeared in court Thursday on a citation of not having his animal properly restrained and not having his animal registered. He was found guilty of both charges and now faces a fine.
