Lame. I've used them for 14 years now in my 05 though my 18. I always have tie downs in there and usually a couple slobbery tennis balls for my lab. Ridiculous they change it after that many years for no other reason than being cheap.

I didn’t realize there was a front rail in the beds. I’ll have to look into that. At least I have the cubbies and side rails with cleats

May have to give this another go. Bought a Remedy 7 last year, rode it once, just couldnt get into it, like I thought I would.

Bummer, I have mine filled with ropes, bungees and other random stiff. In my opinion there is no such thing as too much storage. If its unused wasted space why not make it so you can put crap in it?

Dealer owes you then. Unless they quit including them on 18's which would be a load of sh*t from Toyota.

    Am I missing something here?

I keep straps and bungies in there and maybe its just me but I don't notice any issues with dirt/grime/water in that compartment.

    Ratchet straps in mine...

What's odd to me is Toyota had to spend $$$ to change tooling to make the bed side without the cubby. Sure they save cash in the long run, but it's like spending a dollar to save a nickel. Pretty typical between finance and engineering (I'm on the r&d side in a different industry and same things).

It's an option on the third gen. Amazon frequently has them for like $60 and it's just a few bolts to install.

Honestly removing a hole like this is a simple change and if it's cut out instead of cast into the bed, it's a big savings. Either way, it's a dollar now to save like a quarter a year which, over the course of the next 7-8 years the third gen will take, is significant.

Personally, I still feel like Toyota is starting to nickel and dime across the board and it's going to start to hurt them.

The front rail is not an option, it does not come on any 3rd Gen, fortunately you can buy one for a 2nd Gen and bolt it right up!

Any drilling required or straight bolt on? How do most make use for the front rail, just trying to see if I’d utilize this

It is a straight bolt on, I swapped mine over from the old 2015. The cleats slide in so you can use them for tie downs as I do, also have seen some bike mounts fit in the rail too.

Looks like in addition to the left cubby being gone the front rail is gone too.
