Southeast style overland. So gravel roads, washboard, and crappy highways. I leave the true off-roading up to the side by side.

These are the type posts that have been confusing me. Some say OME are the perfect setup. Then I hear peoples have been sagging after a year of use.

I don't want to do any relocation. Already went down that rabbit hole with a jeep so trying to keep the Taco more factory. Just want a little better performance and not be sagging in the rear after adding weight.

I see. I have the nitrochargers in the rear until I buy the ADS in December. What do you mean 5-6” of shock?

The problem with suspension setups is that you’ll always get opposing views. OME are great springs for the budget user, but be prepared for that outcome. They are not as progressive nor comfortable of a ride as a custom pack such as ALCAN or Deaver but also 1/3 of the price.

I mean actual shock travel. It’s hard to explain it for OE replacement shocks such as any Taco front setup but when you say 12” or 14” shock, that’s the actual cycling number for that shock. There is 12” or 14” of shaft at full extension.

The OE replacements are only cycling 4.5-5.5” on our trucks in the front.

Ok I see what you mean. Thanks for the clarity. I’m just a trail guy...sometimes on 3 wheels

I wouldn’t spend $3500 for gravel roads and highways.

But you’re the target audience for “overlanding.”

    Yay.

Be right back, gonna delete instagram.

Haha gotta do it for the grams!! That's the only reason I'm getting a RTT. Even debated just putting a cardboard box up top with a black trap over it and make a CVT sticker.

Just make it easy on your wallet and go with 5100s or OME shocks with 886 springs and Dakar 096 leaf packs. You don’t need anything fancy to support the load you want to carry and drive on dirt roads.

I'll be that guy and say for Overland the truck is fine stock at most you'd just need a better spring to handle the weight so the ome will be more than enough

I agree that for the most part the truck is great. But currently the suspension sucks carrying any weight. And especially once I add the trailer I'm practically riding on the bumpstops

Unless you actually want a lift, airbags or sumosprings seem like a more effective solution to your problem

What kind of SxS and how big a trailer you towing?

I have some Icon Coilovers up front set at about 1.5" and plan to rebuild them with 700lb springs when I get a bumper, and in the back I have Deaver U402 Expedition stage 3 (2.5-3" lift at 700lbs constant load) and Bilstein 5160s. I've loved having this setup. The springs/shocks in the rear have made it ride better fully loaded with the trailer than with JUST the trailer and a COMPLETELY EMPTY truck bed and stock suspension..

The Habitat I have on my truck is a constant 350lbs, plus i've got another 250lbs with a fridge and dual battery setup in the bed. In the pic below the bed was packed with camping stuff and riding gear.
    0808181657.jpg

Here is a pic without the camping gear or trailer (still at 600lbs bed weight with habitat and fridge/etc). You can definitely tell the rear end is higher, but the ride with the Deavers is still really nice. My friend tells me the high number of thinner leaves is what helps it ride well without a heavy load, but who knows. I think there are 9 leaves and 2 overloads for a total of 11.
    0926181603.jpg

Deaver has 3 stages of expedition springs, they are 3-400 constant bed weight, 5-700, and 700+ (which I got). I'm REALLY glad i got the 700+. I figured the 5-700 would be enough, but decided what the heck... especially since I tow as much as I do.
