is a sensor cover for TRD Pro grills worth it for the 2018 models? Will the sensor still work without the sensor cover?

I have a 2018, did not get the sensor cover and have had no issues in over 2000 miles of actual usage. I'm thinking this is because i'm in Socal and we don't get any weather lol....if you get snow or other road grime, maybe then? So far so good.

I can't adjust my ACC. It stays on max distance, besides that, everything works.

That would make me a tad nervous. If something is affecting the signal or processing enough to impact its ability to select the usual options, it would make me question if it’s working correctly for all other functions. Hate to find out the hard way.

For me, everything has worked fine without any issues...HOWEVER my buddy who just bought an 18 2 weeks ago put in his TRD grille and is having the cruise control issues.....not sure why or what is different...but "knock on wood" mine still works fine.

I installed my pro grill with the sensor cover this past weekend. No issues. In reading other reviews, I’ve come across more people who had problems without using the sensor cover then those who do. Toyota installs the pro grill with the special cover for a reason in my opinion, so I went with it myself. I got the grill and the cover on eBay for $140 delivered.

I'm in WV and I got my Pro Grille for CaliRaised. It did not come with the sensor cover and I ran it for a few days and ran into some issues. My cruise control wouldn't work and my dash said "clean sensor". I ordered the piece that covers it from Toyota, put it on there, and have had no problems ever sense. Was a pricey little piece of plastic but I guess it solved my problem.

Yea it is pricey from @CaliRaisedLed, they definitely overcharge for that same Chinese knockoff you can buy on eBay. For less than half the price....

I heard when the sensor gets wet it will throw a malfunction sign. I just picked one up from ebay for $54 shipped for my grill.

My light comes on in the am when its frosted over, also driving this past weekend through a blizzard the front was covered in snow/road slush and the light was on until I stopped and cleaned off.
