Diesels are under a lot of stress and are generally overbuilt, the issue is these tiny diesels aren't overbuilt to make them cheaper and smaller. So, it sorta nerfs a lot of that value. Inline 6 ford econoline will never leave you stranded

 

You’re right about the tiny diesels not being up to par. I should just get an 80’s Dually RAM and call it a day.

I’ve done it both ways, can’t seem to remember a huge difference when using a trailer with no brakes.

 

No brakes make a huge difference. The two cars I’ve towed on a dolly with surge brakes felt completely different than the unbraked flatbed I towed my toolbox home on.

Brakes help a lot. But they only help so much.

 

In the 80s it was still the TorqueFlight 727, so it wasn't half bad, but they rarely mated the Cummins to an auto back then because men were still men

 

It's where the weight is applied, if we were talking about a flat plane it wouldn't matter but the trailer tongue puts all force on a single point hanging off your frame, and it causes your traction to be altered as well as braking distribution effectiveness.

Trailer brakes are very important, especially when towing with weenie trucks like ours. Even the V6 with the towing package is a joke to real tow worthy vehicles.

 

Oh I know, I’m saying trailer brakes are important and should be used.


In my opinion, if he’s really trying to g et something to put his tools and stuff in he should get a trailer.

Then he doesn’t have to have it with him all the time, he has more room, and when the time comes he doesn’t have to change his set up with a different vehicle, as long as it has a receiver.

 

I’ve never had the luxury of towing a trailer with them.

 

Still has to tow something light though, his I4 shouldn't tow anything over 3500 and his 5 lug shouldn't either. Trailer brakes don't increase tow rating

 

I can stop my land cruiser and fully loaded trailer combo with only the trailer breaks if I have to for some reason, tested it for fun.

 

Lol very true, but they don't have to deal with a lawsuit and NHTSA investigation when they kill someone on the highway because part of their frame broke off and they lost the trailer

 

I’m kidding of course, I have no use for a Dually. Maybe when I have “fuck you” money I’ll get some loaded RAM Dually just for the hell of it.

 

I thought for sure Google would laugh at me for searching this. But my 300zx apparently can tow 1500lbs and they sell two different styles of hitch for it :/

My 06 Corolla is rated for 1500lbs.

The Avalon is rated for 1000lbs

 

To be fair though, 95% of the people that own dually trucks have never put so much as a cinder block in the bed. They're just status symbols for people that got approved on their first vehicle loan

 

Yeah I'm never going to test that

 

His trucks payloads only like 1700 pounds.
