I live in rural Kentucky, which is the equivalent of living 20 years in the past. I'm always surprised that so many people around here carry as much cash as they do.

My grandparents lived in a nice suburb of New York and my grandfather assumed correctly that no one would purchase a party line so they had one for a few years until a neighbor got their daughter one.

My father was 12 when Kennedy when this happened and he mentioned Kennedy's assassination impeding his ability to watch Gunsmoke.

Wayne County, here. South of Monticello. And we still have a town center with a statue of a WW1 Soldier in the middle.
I remember being in the middle of a spelling bee in 5th grade when we got the news about JFK.

It is interesting that people don't forget where they were when they find out about something of that magnitude. I'm just a little northeast, Rockcastle.

    Smoking was allowed on airplanes.

There was no security at the airport... you could go to the gate with you family to see them off or welcome them home.

Phone numbers were advertised using words for the first few digits

You could make a few dollars with a bag of cans on these...

Read "Disaster in Dearborn" by Thomas Bonsall for the whole story, but it was a combination of things, starting with the 1958 recession that REALLY hurt car sales.
