If you want to stay warm, and alive, make the investment.

If you're not worried about some extra weight or low low temps then synthetic is fine.

Mostly be truck camping. The lowest it gets when we camp is about 40 at night. Also we don’t camp near as much as we would like to warrant spending a whole lotta money.
My delima is either get us another tent since ours turns into a bathtub when it rains or boost up or hammock camping equipment. We use to sleep in the camper shell on the truck but selling it out weighed keeping it. For many reasons

Car (truck) camping, you’ll be fine. I wouldn’t trust the degree rating on it until you’ve tried it in milder temps. If you’re still warm, then push on down to colder temps.

I’ve hammock backpacked for over 10 years now. Even converted the Husband.
We love each other but the comfort factor alone when sleeping in a hammock was enough to make us (him) give up nearly all our tents. We hang close, usually off 3 trees.

Hope you’ll post a product report and let us know how it goes!

I'm jealous of you folks that can sleep in a hammock. They aren't great for us stomach sleepers.

I guess I can't say I've tried it but how do you sleep with your back arched the wrong way?

    Arched?

My hammock is pretty flat. If you’re doing the banana shape thing, you’re doing it wrong.

Ok, I should really stop, because I have never slept in a hammock, but I do know geometry... how does 260 lbs of human not droop in the middle of a hammock that is only supported by the ends:
Here is one image I have off the web
    [IMG]

    Here is another:

Can you post me a picture of a hammock that would not have my back at about a 30 degree angle when I'm on my stomach?

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but c'mon, geometry and human biology prevents me from believing that I can sleep in a hammock on my stomach.

These hammocks will do fine for stomach sleepers. The ‘geometry’ you’re missing is that you’re lying with your head and feet in line with the trees. Turn a tad and sleep like the image. Create 4 points and it flattens out the bottom.

The other option is to buy a different hammock. The Bridge styles are designed flat.

I may have to give one of them a try then. I had always figured there was no way to stomach sleep in one but I guessed wrong.

Even though there are options, a hammock still just doesn’t work for some people. (Sucks for them, I couldn’t ever give mine up!).

There’s a forum just like TW for hangers hammockforums. Check it out! They do meet ups and most will let you try their setups to see if you want to invest.

Hmmm.....Our warmest nights in August are in the high 50's. I made a light under quilt that I've used down to 35-40. I sold Enos for years, but wanted to go lighter now that I'm old, so I'm in a DutchWare with partial netting and a whoopee sling suspension. Saved a couple of pounds I think

After my first time in a hammock I vowed to never tent camp again. They are just so much better. Unfortunately lost this canoe camping in a hurricane on this trip. Wrapped it around a tree and snapped in half. The dam on this river was fully open the the water was 16 feet higher than normal, current was insane. Motor got a line in it, stopped working and before we could grab paddles we were snapping around a palm tree.

I would absolutely love to not have a big bulky tent to carry around. I'll be setting one up on Friday.

Depending on your gear, text and hammocks can weigh about the same. For me, it’s the comfort factor. Period.

I also love that in a rain, even the splashes don’t reach me. High and dry. I can also fully set up and keep all my gear dry. Same can be done with a tent, but it’s more difficult.

Issues I’ve had: squirrel running across my ridgeline (startled both of us!)
Skunk walk under me. Don’t dare move!

When we relocated in January to SW Utah, we did break down and buy a backpacking tent. There’s no trees in the desert...

Haha :yes:and just like TW we have non-hammockers as well, we're just a good bunch of people.

Just picked up a Hennessy from their demo model sale. Gonna use it mostly for motorcycle camping trips. Can't wait to check it out, hopefully my side sleeping won't be an issue.

When you just gotta hang, you get creative.

@Limey1795 my first hammock was a Hennessy. Desert Rat. Way heavy, but it got me through the 100 Mile Wilderness in Maine! (First photo)
