Plenty mods on many vehicles since 1982. Current: 15 Tacoma 4X4 V6 TRD OR Access Cab Pyrite Mica- Icon full stage 7, All-Pro APEX sliders & rear Expedition Springs + custom Tampa Springs leaf spring upgrades, Timbren bump stops, u-bolt flip, Road Armor front stealth winch bumper & rear steel, Warn Vr 8000, Nitto Terra Grappler 285/75/r16, Off Grid Engineering Dual Battery system, SPod 6 switch, 2 pairs Rigid D2 spot & flood in bumper, ARE Expedition Cap, bedglide,Tru Cool 45K GVW add on transmission cooler, Re-gear to 4.56, rigid rear bumper floods, scan guage II, rigid ditch lights. full size spare on matching factory wheel, seat mods/insert, CB w/magnet mount.
Just voted and for the record....I would NOT buy my exact truck again.

To be fair, they don’t make my 2nd gen anyway so there’s that.
My reasons for not buying a stock Tacoma TRD OR Acess cab are:

MPG, needs about 50K in (new parts and installation) mods to be the truck I need, automatic transmission, GVRW, power (HP), mods required to accommodate larger tires, limited factory armor, seat quality, etc.

Just to be clear....I love my Tacoma! I’m very unlikely to ever part with it and it should last for as long as I can get in it and drive....or longer.

It’s just obviously much less expensive to buy a used truck with some of the mods you have to do to make the 2nd gen as capable as I wanted it to be....already done by the previous owner. While I have the pleasure and confidence that all the mods are done the way I wanted them and of high quality I think I could have saved at least 20K.

Also, time will tell if the Colorado ZR2 will be a competitive platform but the Diesel engine is certainly a great option for people who use their trucks like I do. Just sayin Toyota....time for a more capable taco if you want to keep me buying new Tacoma’s.

I think I would rather have bought an imported diesel LC than my taco. I almost went this route. I’ll see how the next couple of years go.

Finally some truth about the 3rd gen manual. I’m really happy with my AT and actually use it off-road

I had a manual in a 2003 and it was the funnest most awesome stick to drive. I can’t stand the 3rd gen stock it feels like a toy and I’m going to snap it off in my hand

Yes an no. I love my truck and everything about it. But my wife lost her job and her new one pays half the amount. I had big plans but now I can just make payments and be happy. I love 90% of this truck. I have a '17 but i would love an '18 with MT. The color is ok, id get a different one. I did get a great deal on this as it came with running boards and a rack with a remote start and free oil changes. So, if my wife had her old job, YES. right now, no. I waited my whole life to get this truck, and I am happy i have her, but eventually i might need to trade down.

Sorry to hear that man, any chance of a better gig for her?

Why would I buy a Taco thats frame is going to fall apart? Id rather take my chances with a Ford, or a Diesel Canyon that gets like 30Mpgs highway. Fool me once shame on you, Fool me twice shame on me, Fool me 3 times Comeon who's the real DUMASS...

    You for misspelling dumbass.

I will say that after re gearing to 4.88’s in my 17 auto the driving experience is a million times better.

The 3rd gen manual still sucks. Truck or not. Still miss a heated steering wheel.

Not being able to drive a manual transmission is nothing to be ashamed of.

I really like my truck and do not regret purchasing it. However, I do still think I would have been better off buying an SUV as I dont use the bed much and would have liked the extra waterproof space an SUV offers. I knew this going in and my options were limited based on my requirement of a manual tranny. The only other competitor was the new wrangler but I was very nervous about buying a Jeep with their reliability issues, not to mention I hear they are having issues with bad welds.

    Haha.

    Most modern manual setups suck.

Soft clutch pedals because millennials skip leg days and accumulators that to protect from idiots that don’t know how to ease out a clutch. Long throws because snow flakes can’t handle notchy shifting.

The Tacoma has the worst manual driving experience. Period.

I had a '99 manual. Awesome. Then had a '09 manual. Hated it.

    Stock and staying that way
I have said it before, but if my 2017 Tacoma Limited were totaled today, I'd get a friend to take me to the Toyota dealer, and I'd buy a 2019 Tacoma Limited. I like the way my truck drives. The fuel economy is great IMO and it rides nice.

Ford has no midsize offering (new ranger that is guaranteed to have a ton of problems) and a diesel canyon lol. Your mistake was not getting your 08 frame replaced for free

2019 Tacoma 4x4 TRD Off Road AC in Magnetic Gray named Esker, previously I had a 2017 4x4 2.7 SR AC
Would buy again. I am happy enough with my 2.7 SR auto 4x4... but I can't wait to live under 7000ft elevation though. Every time I drive to Phoenix I am amazed at how much better the silly thing works. I also figure that I could have extended my loan for another $10k for an upgraded truck, or I can spend that much over time and make it exactly how I want it. That said, I do wish it was a manual drive. That is my only real regret. But I found it for dirt cheap.

I wonder how long these 6-speed automatic transmissions will last sometimes...
