What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

I'm really happy with it. There's a bit of extra wind noise and a slight MPG hit, but I wouldn't go without it. It's a great combo.

 

There's a company out there that also makes a set of airfoils that attach to the wiper blade arms. Supposedly they increase the amount of air pressure against the wipers. I have a set that I haven't installed yet but in theory it makes sense. I'm sorry I no longer have the packaging they came in so I can't tell you who made them. They're made of lightweight aluminum and clamp to the wiper arm.

Update: ebay has some listed as "Windshield Wiper Spoilers" .
Not exactly the same as the ones that I have but the same concept.

My truck is less than 3 years old. Never driven my truck in the snow. Went through 2 sets of Icons. Maybe lasted 1 year on the best set. Not worth my money.

 

The only reason I know of to go to Leadville is the Leadville 100!

 

Just about any place in Co. near the Rockies works for me, especially Routt County in the NW corner.

Fire extinguisher mounted under Diamondback cover toward the cab on driver's side bed rail w/ quick release mount, miscellaneous hardware leftover from rtt, bedrack &/or bedrack accessories, and some brackets from Lowe's (I'd like to find a way to mount it outside of the bed on the truck when parked at base camp, especially when someone's cooking. I guess I could just have it out sitting freely somewhere, as well)

A couple 2gal Rotopax mounted on the driver's side rail, barely fitting under the Diamondback cover. Gotta make / find a spacer to get the two to stack evenly while mounted, but it's good enough. They stay put, for now.

 

Had a few days off, and am home for the first time in a month.

Installed the Blackvue 590 two-camera dash cam system in the Taco. Install was pretty straightforward, and thanks to previous posts, it went well. The way I chose to run the cables to the rear left a lot of extra, but I was able to hide it in the dash below the driver's side speaker. I may choose to reroute it on the passenger side just to minimize the cables in the driver's a-pillar. Also found that I may need to reroute the command start cables as they were installed by the previous owner over top of the airbag.

The 590 hides well behind the rearview mirror, and with a bit of patience, the cables are well hidden. It's getting a little crowded up there with the remote start antenna and power cables, but it's all mirror and above so it doesn't impede visibility and still allows for the GoPro to be used with out any blocking. The rear camera was mounted center on the sliding window, but I don't use the slider, so not an issue for me. Probably would have been better to mount it off center, so we'll see how it goes.

The WIFI set up is simple, and handy for getting the cameras set up properly. Downside is that if my phone can only use one wifi at a time, so if it connects to the camera, it blocks out any other wifi, and vice-versa.

Still need to finish up the install with the Power Magic Pro so that I can make full use of the parking mode and the anti-theft aspect. The kit doesn't come with add a fuse taps, so need to grab a couple of those - a little disappointing. One downside to the PMP is that the wires connecting the control box to the fuse are short, which means the control box HAS to go on the driver's side. I was hoping to mount it in the glove box, and I don't feel like rewiring the harness.

Anyone using PMP? I am thinking that if I use the voltage setting, I can use the infinite time setting because the PMP will shut off the power to camera when the voltage drops, and won't drain the battery, regardless of how long it's on. Any wisdom?

 

I finally installed my new Havoc HS2 steps. They have been in my garage for 2 weeks waiting for me to have some time to install.

 

Looking good, but I know I would find a way to poke myself in the eye with the point of that shovel sticking out the back. Can you turn it around?

I like the setup with the Diamondback and the RTT on top of that. Is that a front runner rack?

 

I used a circular saw with a wood blade turned backwards. Kinda like how you'd use it to cut metal or tin. You have to go slow but it will work ok...

 

Thanks for your concern. I actually started out in the direction you suggested. However, it blocked my access to the front panel cover of the Diamondback cover. I'm thinking it would help if I find a rubber weather stripping to cover the edge and point with. There's one off roading shovel I've seen that has a cover for the jagged edge of the blade. That might work on the shovel I have...

 

I have learned something new today. I can now consider getting out of bed this morning as worthwhile.

My dad taught me this trick when we were putting in that shiny galvanized metal around my bar in my basement. You've seen the stuff I'm sure in lots of bars and restaurants across the country. If you leave the blade in the normal position it shoots slivers of metal all over while cutting. But turning it backwards makes it cut smoothly. Also saw the guys who built my barn doing the same thing with the corrugated steel.

 

The pro of this method of cutting metal siding is the clean look. The con of cutting metal like that is the ear-piercing banshee wail that the saw makes going through the steel!
