Gotcha. I normally just have a weathertight bin, golf clubs for the possible opportunity to come along.

But will like to do more this time around.

Hard to imagine not having a shell on mine. Bought a leer from a member here and had it painted, got about 1100 in it which includes a 500 dollar paint job. It is nice not having to unload contents until I am ready, also comes in handy for family camping trips and visits to the grocery store. For me a shell is much more convenient than an open bed. I never take it off and use a trailer when large items need to be moved. It leaks small amounts of water when rain pours down but not enough for me to even care about. My cap is by far the best accessory I have purchased for my truck by a long shot.

Bought mine used on craigslist for $900. I didnt know how Id like it so I was not going to buy new. I have come to love the cap.

I have a leer with crank out windows. I wish it had a carpet interior as I think it looks far more finished, and allows velcro to stick to it. It has lights, but they have never worked for me and I havent gotten around to installing any yet.

I was a bit disappointed how it leaked between the cap and bed rails, but I did a good sealing with caulk under the bed rails, and foam above. Now no more leaks even in a powerful carwash.

I have had caps on my trucks for 25 years. Leer and ARE, On East Coast so Snug tops aren't around. I wouldn't be without one. Quality control isn't very good with either company but I have not had any problem with them being able to match the paint.

Other than windows that leak the seal around the bed depends on how good of a job the dealer does.

The fold down window is a worth while option, otherwise it is difficult to clean between the cap and the cab.

Both ARE and Leer always have some coupons for free stuff if you are buying new make sure you check it out before you order.

Bought mine used off a taco that was auction bound. I never went out of my way to seal anything I put it on and it stays very dry. Only time water gets in is when I open the window and its raining or wet then it slightly drips near the tailgate.

    Sweet!

Love the bed rail Rotopax mount! Do you have a pic that shows your spare tire mount? Thinking of doing something similar. I'm a bit concerned about bounce if it's only attached to the bed rail. I have D rings up front though, so could always run a strap over the top of the tire too...

I would buy mine again in a heartbeat. I have a SnugTop and have never had any issues with leaking or water entry. The cap makes it so much nicer to pack for camping trips and you don't have to worry about stuff flying out the back or theft. Do it!

Not my pic but I built the exact same thing. Never had an issue when mine was mounted this way.

I wish you'd installed my canopies, but I'm not sure it would have mattered. My first one, a Leer, was fine til I moved to the PNW. Then it leaked. It leaked from the windoor frames. It leaked from the back window. It leaked from the roof rack tracks. It was a leaky SOB but I managed to stop about 95% of it.

Fast forward to buying my 2nd gen. Figured I'd pick up an Alu-Cab, mostly because it was in stock and I had heard good things about their construction and reputation. It leaked. It leaked through the side doors. It leaked through the back hatch. It leaked at probably half of the seams where they attached the sheet metal to the frames. It leaked through the rubber trim that holds the front window glass in. It leaked through the fasteners that attach the tracks to the roof. I'm still chasing leaks, but I've gotten all of the big ones. Now I'm down to the little ones that are harder to track down.

I don't think I had a single leak related to the installation job. On the plus side, I'm damn good with a tube of RTV now.
