    Since it sounds like you are leaning towards overlanding not hard-core, I'd suggest looking at aluminum skid plates instead of steel. Aluminum, while not as ultimately strong as steel, is significantly lighter. You want protection from the occasional rock, not constant bashing.

    I am running a full set of aluminum skids, and am quite pleased with them.

    Of course, my teardrop has steel skids, but they are really part of the frame. And, I like the extra weight down low - it helps with the center of gravity.

    Right now SAS the front and engine swap leaning towards an ls swap but still doing research and not set on an engine yet. And get rid of the bed and back half of the frame and do a full tubed bed cage with links. Well that's what I'm dreaming of at least :der:
