Garage is clean enough to have both bikes on the rack for once!

The Specialized patent expiring has been the best thing for the bike industry :)

Dude no kidding. I would only ride Spez simply because of FSR. Tried VPP because racing, but not my style. DW was good back on the Sundays, and Maestro always holds a place between my legs. Although that linkage driven single pivot on the new Kona...got to ride those before they were released and almost preordered one, they got it right.

EDIT: Just realized you're in the PNW...Lucky you!

So fkn beautiful. If only I lived in a place to utilize a Sentinel/Patrol!!!!!!!!!

Did my first race last week. It rained and made the trails stupid slick, many DNFs so I ended up 15/42 in my class (Mens 18-29 Open). Comparing times I probably would have been closer to mid-pack had everyone actually finished. Good fun, looking forward to the next.

After a couple rides, if ya don’t mind giving a short little review. I plan to buy that same bike once money allows. Curious as to your opinion on the bike and how you like the “knock block”

    Yeah.
I'll let @jeff b chime in as well, but I had the same bike and now have a Remedy with knock block. I've never knocked up against the stop while riding either of them, so it's pretty much a non-issue. The Fuel is a better all-arounder and is very well-balanced. I felt at home very quickly on that bike, nice and neutral handling. But I tend to ride my Stache on the tamer trails and was wanting for a bit more travel for some of the crazier stuff around here (that I usually ride around anyway because I am old and chicken). The Remedy likes to fly and is awesome at speed, but it is a little awkward on climbs and slower, techy terrain. The Fuel is a bit less stable at higher downhill speeds, but not unstable, and most of us wouldn't be looking at a Fuel if that's the only kind of riding we were doing.

Like I told @jeff b, if I could only have one bike, it would be that Fuel. I've owned several Fuels, and I think they finally perfected it. I miss it. Maybe I should sell my 2 bikes, go back to a Fuel, and buy something for the truck. Nah, I like my Stache too much.

Good to hear! I wish I could say I rode a lot more dh but it’s mostly tech trails with climbing and some descending. So it does sound like the Fuel is for me. Thank you for your help. I greatly appreciate it.

Can anyone make some recommendations on an "entry level" all mountain bike? Im looking to purchase a bike once I get home from AFG in February. Im not new to mountain biking, but it has been a while since I've owned one. Ive done a lot of trail riding and downhilling but usually borrow a buddies bike or pay to rent one. Im looking to get a full suspension bike that is good for down hill but also regular trail riding. Id like to ideally spend under 2K, but I don't want to skimp out on quality. Im not opposed to getting used or last year's model, i just dont know where to look. Ive been looking at Treks, Diamondbacks and Konas. Any input from experience? Thanks in advance!

Here is some food for thought; https://www.pinkbike.com/news/ridden-and-rated-4-trail-bikes-under-3000-usd.html

I wouldn't buy a new full suspension that is under $2000. You could probably find a decent deal on something used in that price range, though. Check out PinkBike classifieds

We’re at a point where there’s so many good bikes out there now. Go talk to locals, figure what people are riding in your area and why. Use their knowledge to help you :)

For your range def look for last year deals or lightly used.

I’d stay away from Diamondback, and Kona. Trek has some decent options. Personally i am a fan of picking up Demos. I purchase my Full suspension, it was a demo but in great shape for half the price of a new one. Depends on where you are, you can usually get some killer deals on demo.

I know here in the Tahoe area, you can pretty much pick up any bike brands demos for 30-50% off.

Bikes are like anything else, pay once cry once. Rock Mountain makes great bikes for the price, ibis, Santa Cruz, YT, Salsa. Those are some of the bikes I’ve seen in person / or have friends who ride.
