I wear synthetic stuff on camping/fishing trips and after day 3 they just about walk around the campsite by themselves. I just wash normal and they come out fine.

Finished doing my rear brakes last night. Tested the e-brake, it held on a hill. Drove it around to discover a clicking noise seemingly related to the rotation of the back wheel (s) and then it wouldn't hold on a hill after wards. I hope it's an adjustment thing. I do not feel like taking those mf things apart again.

Drum brakes suck! I am super happy my GMC has 4 wheel disks, but I need to service my trailer and that has 4 wheel drums! DOH!

The Gen 3's are still rear drums? You gotta be kidding me. Toyota is so stagnant in their development department. I loved both my Tacos but man, when I got the GMC I was like, oh wow, this is what you get when a manufacturer has to actually "try".

Does it click all the time, just in reverse, just when braking, etc?

The most common problem is that either the shoes or the self-adjuster got put on backwards. Both of them can cause clicking.

Edit- Shoes backwards usually causes weird braking too, though.

I don't understand the big issue with using Drum brakes. Most stopping is done with fronts anyways.

People are easily confused by drums so they don't like them. :stirthepot:

They're just as functional, and in the salt belt they tend to hold up better than discs.

That's good to know, but why? Are they more shielded from the salt?

I just don't like doing brake jobs with them. Disks are so much easier to work on. But to be honest, I never had an issue with stopping performance in my Tacomas.

forwards and in reverse. through acceleration and braking. Braking didn't feel unusual, but I'd hit myself if I put the shoes on backwards. I'll have to crack them back open after work today.

I haven't had any issues with braking, just replacing

Pretty much, yes. They are also less likely to get sand, gravel and clay packed than discs. They can, but, less likely.
I have no issues with the brakes either.
Stops better than my Jeep with 4wheel discs.

    And happy 2nd Monday.
    On call till Monday...

Yes they are more shielded the components are inside the drum. So the salt spray and mist typically doesn’t make it inside.

Since the friction surface and the pivot points are shielded and enclosed they're less likely to get covered in salt, sand, clay, etc. than discs/calipers, so they're less likely to gum up or rust and jam. But they don't shed heat as well, which is why they don't use them on the front wheels on anything anymore.

Well that is all good news for trailer brakes especially. I have seen disk conversions for trailers and wondered if that was the way to go but I guess not.

My money's on either the self-adjuster being on backwards and spinning, or a spur on either the drums or the pads that hasn't meshed up (ground down) yet and makes a 'click' when it contacts.
Drums are better for trailers in that respect. The shoes don't really contact the drums when the brakes aren't applied, so they're less likely to weld themselves in place if you let it sit for a while.

I noticed a bump on one of the shoes when I was installing, fingers crossed its that. I assumed it would have made a grinding type noise
