Does the daytime running lights come on automatically or do you have to turn them on?

 

Have one side wired to come on automaticly. Wiring them to the parking lights.

 

would like to hear a sound clip as well.
i know they typically don't really do it justice.

my biggest fear is the cold engine BRAAAP! that comes with 6cyl exhaust systems.

I don't have a step by step write up but here are the sources I used to figure out where to tap to get the light to fade with the dome, etc.

Here is toyota's instructions on installing under vehicle lights on a 3rd gen that will give you an idea of where to run the wires, which grommets to push them through to get wires from inside to outside of vehicle, etc.:

I didn't use these instructions exactly since I wired up a 2nd gen but which interior panels to remove and where the lights go through the floor are the same.

Post #2 - The blue box on the lower set of boxes that shows the layout of the plug under the dash is the light blue wire I tapped (box #9). This shows the pin # you're looking for that will work regardless of wire color.
Post #7 - The picture here is of that interior panel behind the coin holder (the one near your left knee when sitting in the driver seat) and shows exactly which wire to tap. Yours may be a different color than light blue but whatever wire is there will be the correct wire to tap for your ground assuming it is coming out of the pin #9 detailed in post #2.

The ground side of your connection should be going to the tap under the dash demonstrated in Post #7. This is what controls the fade on and off and will also turn the lights off after 30 seconds (I think?) of being on but not firing the truck up. The lights will not turn on if you put the dome light to 'on'. They will only fade on and off. If you want it on with the dome light when you switch that to 'on' and not 'door', it is more complicated. I didn't want to go that complicated with this project.
Post 7 also shows a 12vdc+ that is also available if you don't want to run a fused line from your battery. I struggled enough tapping the blue wire under the dash (call me uncoordinated...) that I decided not to tap that wire and just run one from the battery. This gives me the flexibility of the constant on line with more capacity than the tiny gauge supplied by that under dash wire in case I wanted to add lights for the rear doors too (who knows...i might get bored someday soon and want a simple add on project).

To put the lights on the truck, I used industrial grade velcro as that is what i had available to me. Any heavy duty double sided tape would work as well. Make sure to clean the area first for proper sticky adhesion. If you're willing to drill your truck, that's also an option. I wasn't willing to drill so...heavy duty adhesives will hopefully hold up. If not, I'll look around for other options.

The wrap can get chipped but it would have to be a pretty nasty hit. Wrap is great for protecting against tree branches though.

Also currently working a lighting project, using a cali raised pod as a aux light/reverse light that mounts to my roof rack.

Also went to ramp 32 in Avon this past weekend for some fishing. Had to take a glamor shot.

Not today but Saturday...hauled 6 squares of siding to the top of the ski hill. Recent rains made it interesting, so put the new winch through it’s paces. Couldn’t have done it (wouldn’t have tried it!) without spotter guidance, steep bench-cut road with a loaded trailer trying to pull me off the whole way. We’re at the easy part here, photo didn’t capture the angle of the hill.

Update. I recieved and email response from Trail-Gear about my rusty and cracked 3 month old leaf springs....

and they are just going to warranty them out and ship me new ones at no cost. Considering all the bad comments on here about AP and TG, I actually had a great experience. New leaf springs it is.

 

I edited my original post to say this too. It’s is a semi-custom At the Helm front bumper. I chose the single center hoop option and asked Morgan for the extra support tubes. He’s super responsive and super fast. And the bumper looks amazing!
