Remember in high school when the rich kids had nice cars and everyone else had beaters, and were glad to have them.

We would visit my Aunt every other Sunday afternoon for dinner in another State.
She wanted us to call when we got home to let her know we got home safe, especially in the winter...

So the plan was when we got home I was to call the operator and ask to place a Person to Person collect call to ME at her number....

When her phone rang she would answer to the Operator asking.... "I have a Person to Person collect call for Teddy."
My Aunt would answer.... "I'm sorry, Teddy is not here right now, good night and God Bless you"

Job done and NO Long Distance Charges ! We all thought it was the coolest thing....

If you wanted satellite TV you had to have a dish in your back yard that would make NASA envious. My uncle had one and still has it.:)

I, just today, learned how to link a youtube video on my phone. Only problem is, I already forgot how I did it.

Hold the Phone ! I got another phone memory !

I remember when we DID make a long distance call to say, my Grandmother on a Special occasion, we would all be lined up shoulder to shoulder to make the call, each to take a turn and each to hold the receiver a bit away from our ear so everyone could hear what was being said. Then saying "good bye, I love you" and quickly handing it off to the next in line and running to the end. Giddy with the excitement of it all, huddled around each other ! :)

It was a Big Deal to talk on the phone !

Another thing we take for granted... Like hot water at the tap in the kitchen and a refrigerator instead of an ice box !
All the water pipes at my Grandmother's house were exposed in the room on the outside of the plaster walls to better keep from freezing although in the winter we still let the water drip overnight to keep it flowing..... There, we made hot water on the cast iron kerosene stove in the kitchen.

One pot belly stove in the "parlor" that of course wouldn't stay lit all night. I still cover myself with 3 or 4 blankets, for the weight of them provides me with comfort.

Another good one! I can relate. It's been awhile since I have called someone and heard the busy signal.

I can remember going to visit my dad's uncles farm. If you had to use the bathroom you went out to the outhouse. They did have a hand pump inside for water.
They always had candy for use.

Oh....his dad shoved me to the ground and stuck his finger right in my face. At the moment I figured an ass woopin' was coming. Luckily better judgment prevailed on his part

Know them days well, I drove the old farm truck back and forth. Rich snob's would try to make fun of you while there girlfriends were around. That was easy to stop though, just stand up to them or bust em in the chops.
