Who's hunting deer this weekend? I'm pretty sure @JDAM is. I'm all over the board on where to put boots on the ground.

Any of you guys have home security camera setups? Mine is getting old and limited compared to new so thinking of upgrading. Mine does 8 channel but only have 4 720p cameras. But it really is limited in the recording side and can only really do D1 compression ("Standard Def") recording and not at full FPS.

I'm interested in recommendations too. Notifications on movement, can view on smart phone. And can't be too expensive. I want all the features but don't want to pay for them hahahahaha

I have Amazon cloud cams at my house. If you can get past the whole amazon thing, theyre pretty good for the money. I got them 1/2 price on gold box

We use the nest cameras and like them a lot. The only downside is you cant backup yourself, have to use their cloud solution.

With the cloud cams, you can download anything that shows up as motion and i think i saw a script in git that will do it automagically if youre into that sort of thing

by the way, the Chamberlain thermal motion sensors are working good. 30 ft range on motion detect. All wireless with good range to base unit. I try to set them just high enough so deer can't set them off. Affordable on Amazon. Has never failed to detect deliveries and people coming home from school/work.

Looking for ones with local storage myself. Mostly cause I prefer continuous recording. I also hate having to rely on internet/cloud storage when I have my own server to backup to at home (and backup selectively from there).

Should add that these woud be outdoors with no real access to power outlets so looking more at PoE cameras

yeah with the nest camera, you can like teach it the difference between humans and dogs or some shit idk haven't needed to do that yet. I do like the fact that I can hear and talk over the camera as well.

I would highly recommend using ubiquity cameras then. Good build and you can roll your own dvr. They are roughly the same cost as a lot of the managed mainstream cameras too and you dont have to pay for the service

They are one I have been looking into. Though really it seems like their cameras are meh. Just have to decide if I'm wanting to go with a setup like Blue Iris management or go with a premade setup

The other setup is a LeChange branded setup that uses Donhua cameras which are pretty well liked...Donhau is the OEM and just rebrands from others.

I had a ring flood lamp cam. Can view it on the smart phone, talk/listen to audio live through the smart phone and it stores everything in the cloud for you. I think I got mine for around 240 originally.
