    Hey guys,

im picking up my '18 TRD PRO tacoma this weekend and wondering what the dealer is gonna try and pitch me in the financing office for options? any you guys have experience with this model/options?

im mainly concerned with the alarm system. if i dont purchase it does it still come with a regular alarm system? i remember they got me on that for my 2011 trd off road.

    Thanks all.

Yes finance options will be pushed. Yes regular alarm comes with it.

My dealer does a key/ tire replacement program. Definitely it can be worth it. I popped a tire in my 2nd gen with 2500 miles in Indiana coming home from a hunting trip in Illinois. Replaced for free. Definitely worth it.

That’s all I have is the regular. Unless it saves you on insurance or you live in the ghetto or something I would go the stock route.

They are going to try to sell you extended warranties. As someone who studied economics, I always decline extended warranties. **I am in no position to give you financial advice but can only tell you my experience**
They'll likely start with an extended warranty that covers a lot and work their way down the tiers. They'll make it sound pretty affordable by breaking it down to $x per month. I politely declined all the sales pitches.

The finance guy I had was a seasoned veteran. He came out, greeted me, asked me some questions. Walked away and tailored his pitch around those questions.

I had the alarm crap pulled on me when I helped my brother buy his truck in 2011. $400 dealer installed ("we already installed it, it cant be removed"). Was young and naive and gave the dealer $400 for it.

If your financing at the Dealer Watch out for "Gap" insurance it is like a total scam that just lines their pockets with more $$ and Turn down the Thief Protection package just another $300 pocket liner for the dealer and make sure that they do not try to charge you for the "preferred owner's portfolio" because that is from the factory it is the owners manual and stuff.

Gap can come in handy, If he wrecks his truck gap will cover the difference of what his truck is worth and what he owes, Now if you put a big down payment don't get gap.

Gap insurance is no scam. If you don’t put enough down on it and total it without gap insurance you will have to make up the difference between what the insurance pays out after depreciation and what you owe in it.

Like stated. They will push extended warranty. Pain protection. Where insurance, interior protectant. Etc.

I’d watch their interest rate too. Most times you can get it less then they offer. They can find many lenders that can and will match your lower rate.

    1. Put enough down to not need gap insurance.

    2. Do not get extended warranty. You’ll have a great one from Toyota already- you’ll end up paying $3-5k for services you might need, but if you do would be way less than that price.

    3. Tell them to take off any “extras” you don’t want. Make them do it or threaten to walk away. I had a dealer trying to charge me $1,500 for a “protection and appearance package” that was literally scotch guarding the floor boards and putting a vinyl pinstripe on the truck. I said if scotch guard or a pinstrip got anywhere near that truck I was done. If your dealer sells any non OEM “packages” they are 100% a scam.

    4. Don’t pay extra for OEM accessories like floor mats, tonneau covers, running boards, bed mats, etc. You can find them for nothing on CL and TW. Hell, they are even cheaper on Amazon.

    5. Don’t pre buy any service packages. Toyota offers free oil changes and tire rotation for 2 years, don’t let them fool you into paying for that service ahead of time- it’s free!

In short. Take the truck and nothing but the truck.

OK I did not state anything about putting enough down because for most buyers who have a decent trade in do put enough down but they still will try to sell you Gap insurance just like with me I offered to trade in a Tundra and $$ that equaled to 2/3 total purchase price and they kept trying to push me with that Gap insurance anyways so that formed my opinion of it being a scam.

Hate that crap. It took longer to say "no" to all the bullshit insurance pitches than it did to negotiate the price and test drive the truck!

If you're feeling feisty, when the guy says "you need extra insurance, these things have a lot that can go wrong", say "funny, the sales guy just sold it to me based on it being the most reliable thing on the road!"

Get your best financing through a credit union near you. Take the check in and hand it to the finance guy. Then, keep saying 'NOOOOO" to all the BS. That is what I do. Works well.

Go in pre-approved. Local FCU are your best friend. They will fall over themselves to undercut with Toyota Motor Credit.

Oh by the way...make them put it in writing that they will disable the optional seat belt chime.

I politely said no thanks and get me the flip out of here b4 I cancel this purchase after 1 1/2 hours of warranty sales ! Negotiations of the purchase price took 15 minuets. It was a CPO from Toyota no extras needed..

Have you read the forum? Apparently everyone’s 3rd Gen is garbage. EVERYONES! I think I’d go with the extended warranty.
