So you got both TSB's? Am I understanding that correctly?

When they do an ECU flash it just updates it to the most recent update, which should cover both.

    Hi all,

My dealer in Ventura just ran the latest updates this past Saturday 8-18-18, both the motor and transmission had updates available. They ran my updates based on TSB 0058-18. Both TSB 0058-18 and TSB 0062-18 result in the same updates being applied. Basically, if they deem the truck experiencing any behavior in either TSB, they look for and run any updates reported as available via Techstream. They literally showed me the list of all items that could be updated. My guess is when they look for updates based on a TSB, likely they will update any that have an update available. I will see if they will send me an electronic copy to post more info.

As for my experience post updates..I went and drove around for about 30 minutes Saturday night and tried to hit all the areas where I remembered experiencing the delay then aggressive surge when stepping hard on the accelerator. I definitely want to continue driving under normal conditions so I’m not consciously testing, but thus far the update does seem to have corrected the issue. What I experienced in my test was that when I really step on it from a coasting speed, there is still a slight delay and I still hear the engine rev up (which is totally fine), however, as I anticipate the jolt, it seems to kick in much smoother and distribute the power more evenly which has thus far appeared to remove the jolt effect.

As I have driven more over the last couple days, while I still think the transmission occasionally seems a little confused, it seems to be much less so, and my driving experience has started to improve without me being frustrated or anticipating being frustrated. I will feel more certain the update is a proper adjustment/correction when the new behavior is consistent to the point that I no longer think about it when I go to drive the truck, but again, already feeling better.

Just had this TSB done today and it seemed to be shifting much smoother on the drive home. Time will tell if this is a good fix or not.

Those who have had the TSB done, did the dealer put the sticker on the hood after the update like the TSB says to do? My dealer says they did the update today and the paperwork references it and the truck drives much better but they didn’t put the stick under the hood stating it’s had the update...

I had this update done about 4k miles ago, no change other then a 1mpg loss. My mpg has been slowly creeping back up though so maybe it has something to do with the transmission learning. They claimed they reset it so it had to relearn. Just a side note, I drive the exact same 80 mile round trip route every day, and the same speeds using 90% cruise control. Its about as close as you can get to a controlled environment irl, so I don't think I imagined the drop in mpg during the first 2500 miles

I had this update done this past weekend. The main difference that I have noticed is that the shifting is much smoother, especially under moderate to hard acceleration. It also seems to do a better job of staying in the appropriate gear, which makes it feel like it has more pep. I hope it stays this way. I didn’t have any real complaints before, but the tsb was a nice improvement.

Just had mine done yesterday and noticed the same things. The truck drivers much better overall, very happy!

Had mine done today (0058) and so far so good. The terrible, harsh shifting and dead pedal have gone away. The dead pedal was so bad in the Tacoma that that when I occasionally drove my partner's Subaru, I was so lead footed that I almost rear ended a few people when the light turned green. Ugh.

Sorry for the stupid question but, where is the re-flash done? Is it somewhere under the hood or the OBD reader? I ask as I have a GPS tracker installed in the OBD port & I don't want the dealer messing with it.

    Thanks...

Uninstall it before you go in. They need access to the port.

Is this the roughness noticed between 40 and 50 mph? On my test drive I noticed it was running rough but thought the computers would work it out. The salesman said the same thing plus it has very few miles on it. Should I have mine flashed as well? Just bought it 2 weekends ago, should they have done it at the dealership prior to selling?
