bringing this thread back as I have this kit coming in on Thursday. What size self tapping screw was used to mount the harness? could I get away with some 3M tape instead of drilling into the truck?

It comes with double sided pads. I used those and mounted the ballasts on a vertical surface near the headlamps. No issues here.

I drilled put the mounting holes ever so slightly and used the grounding bolts next to the battery and behind the washer fluid reservoir to mount. Turned out great. I also skipped the harness and plugged directly into stock wiring. Been a couple months and no issues.

So the harnesses aren't really needed? I know the op mentions them more as a security measure. I would like to use them but if they can be mounted with 3m adhesive tape instead of a screw I would prefer to go that route.

This is based on my very beginner level understanding that the wiring harness is meant to keep the power draw consistent and not cause the rest of the wiring to short out.

Harness is not needed but cheap insurance. 3m tape will totally do the trick!

Btw did anyone else experiencing a bit of light shakes / bounces while driving down a fire road at like 40+mph? Not super bad but definitely noticeable. I just wanted to make sure it's not an installation issue.

i will get shakes on a washboard if its really rough but outside of that the bulbs are solid as a rock. I'm coming up on a year of ownership with no issues. I'm actually going to be cutting my harness up soon so i can shorten/extend as needed to run the power through my auxiliary fuse panel

I just installed my kit last weekend and I notice the shakes/bounce driving through my neighborhood. I will be swapping o-rings from my stock bulb to the HIDs to see if that fixes it.

I should have results up this weekend. I did try to get some footage of it last night while driving around..but it's kinda hard to see the shaking in video. But yeah, I agree it is VERY annoying and makes me feel like I got some cheesy aftermarket kit in....if I am unable to fix it I will be going back to my LEDs and putting my HIDs up for sale..

Swapping the o-ring from your halogen bulb to the HID bulb should work but if anyone continues to experience the bounce issue then let us know and we can provide a thicker o-ring to help with this issue.

same here, the HIDs actually perform and the shake is rare for me so I can live with it. The HIDs are likely my favorite upgrade because they throw so much usable light
