It’s not backpressure that you want, it’s velocity. A pipe too large will decrease flow velocity. A smaller pipe will have a greater velocity at lower exhaust gas flow, making an engine more efficient at lower speeds. Creating a source of pressure just to restrict flow would have no benefit at all.

    Haha haha

Ok dude. We all believe you putting a cat back on your truck lost you I don’t know .... like 100hp cuz you can’t drive up a hill anymore.

    Sheesh

And yes I call bs on your 40* drive way when our damn trucks have a 35* approach angle.

Hmmm interesting. It appears I stand corrected.

Your example of a boosted engine vs NA is not apples to apples. Boosted motors are far more sensitive to flow and pipe diameter. Our little v6 doesn’t have the cfm to see serious gains or losses from a simple catback.

Engine dynos from small block v8 comparing 2.5” to 3” from the headers back see around a 5% loss in power.

Edit: the gain is from moving to the bigger pipe. The loss is moving from a 2.5 to 3”. My wording is confusing.

Again my only point is you’re butt dyno isn’t going to feel the little gain from a catback and those that claim they’ve lost power from a catback are just looney.

You guys are all funny because putting an exhaust on a V6 for more than sound. You aren’t going to gain much power out of this motor without spending serious cash on a full front to back setup... so IMO, save the $$$ and buy some beer and a forest pass.

If you are referring the article about the Raptor, they never say anything about a turbo. It’s an old article.

We won’t talk about the exhaust I purchased in this thread, but you are correct about needing to replace the system front to back to see noticeable gains. It’ll be interesting to see the final results of the development of Dirty Deeds exhaust system.

Yah when I watched the videos on the first page I didn’t see anything different acceleration-wise, seriously, but I honestly think my simple flowmaster super-44 box only sounds better.

Just going to throw an idea out....

Suppose that when the free flowing larger exhaust was put on it didn’t slow the truck down it just exposed and underlying problem with the factory Toyota tune. My truck is horrible on a steep incline from a standstill. Ambient outside temperature compounds the momentary power loss as dose added weight.

....and this is with OVTune 104 91 octane tune.

Yeah it’s just frustrating when people make comments like you aren’t able to tell if you’ve lost power here or there unless you prove it with a Dyno reading. Some people I guess are just more talented than others and are really Entune with their vehicles. I don’t know. My Brother-in-law is one of them. He can feel the slightest thing, take it in, and sure enough he’s right. That’s all I’m saying. Everything’s good. I do agree to help prove the exact reading, you would need to Dyno it.

As stated before but multiple people, no one cares what you believe and your speaking as a group when no one else has sided with you. Oh yeah and I really said I lost 100hp, dude just shut up.Please quit quoting me.I lost power,I know that blows your little mind but the fine details of how or why dont matter...added exhaust=lost power=end of story and rant now can we please focus on the reason most of us are here which is to spend money and learn!! There's always that one guy in every thread tho.

It would be cool if Mat did back to back pulls running 1.05 91 or 93 with the stock exhaust and then dirty deeds' y-pipe :)

For a stock engine, I think a 2.5 to 2.75 exhaust is pretty adequate. Are there even 2.75 exhaust for our trucks?
With a turbo or supercharger pushing up to 400+hp, then I feel a full 3in would be the best match.
It isn't the lack of backpressure that kills low end torque, but the lose of exhaust scavenging.
Or as the previous video that was posted, exhaust velocity.

Still in for more sound videos.

I do know about getting a custom exhaust, even getting oddball sizes is all possible with the right resources.

Was just wondering on the mass production level.
For me, I am actually satisfied with my MBRP dual exhaust.

you say you want to learn but you're not listening to someone trying to teach you something.

put your stock exhaust back on and sell the mbrp if it's losing you that much power.
