3 different people have been killed by lions in Oregon recently, they aren't really something to mess with imo. Black bears don't scare me at all but I don't mess with mountain lions

I enjoy long reach shooting. It’s a fun thing to try. I don’t hunt much anymore but competition shooting is fun... I can hit with a 60 year old scoop with my Winchester at 800 yards. Long reach shooting is something I’d like more practice at though.

    That’s called over population.

We caught a lion 30 yards away from where I walked down in a canyon one time.

Another time I almost stepped on one laying down in the brush before it jumped and ran away.

If they would have been hungry I’m sure it would’ve been a different story.

After I let them out of my traps last winter they just sit here and stare at me, growling, wouldn’t run away until I left.

I've only seen one bobcat in my life, and it was the weirdest thing ever. Got my Tacoma a little stuck in the snow and was digging it out with my little brother, out in the woods at night, all the sudden look up and this small bobcat is in the bushes maybe 15 feet from us just standing watching us. It wasn't aggressive at all, just stood watching them slowly walked away when I stood up. I'm betting it was sick or something because it wasn't acting normal. Had my 19 on my so I wasn't worried though, and an entrenching tool in my hand lol

I don’t believe that, every set is different.

Maybe, but they’re pretty freakin stupid too.

I’m not gonna take a 1 year old kitten, that’s not right, same with females, tried to avoid those.

Yea, I used it to pay for part of school last year.

I’m gonna keep one and get it mounted and another for a hat one of these years though.

That's awesome, how do you sell them? And do you do all the prep work to the fur first? Ballpark what kinda money do you get for them? I've never trapped or done anything with fur but I've always wanted to learn

You can send them to auctions or sell to private buyers.

You gotta get all the excess meats and fats off that you can and then stretch and dry them.

Price depends on the year, last year my uncle sold before a big auction and got and average of 450$, I sold after and got an average of 200$. But you can sell a big tom with good fur and color for 1000+, for big north west cats anyway.

Last year was the first year I really did any good, I drove a 150 mile loop every 2 days haha. You kinda just have to figure it out if you don’t have anyone to show you, takes time.

That's good money though if you treat it as a possibly profitable hobby though rather then an actual means of making money, sounds like a lot of fun, lot of work too but still

Most don’t do it for the money. Seems like a lot of people do it because of tradition or something I dunno.

I just like to be in the mountain, gives me something to do too, besides chase hounds around.

Oh hell no, very little profit, but when your bank accounts drained by the end of the season and you sell out and get that check to replenish, it doesn’t seem bad.
