Doing some homework for 35s

    This is only true if you maintain the same spring length, weight, and shock length. On a mid travel setup, which most people upgrade to, full stuff is still farther down than stock.

    Anectdotally, I wheel the hell out of my truck and when I had 33s still on the stock suspension, I'd rub in places I didn't rub after a lift and no other changes. So idk, I guess ymmv, you know your truck better than I do.

    Another option that you could consider that I'm holding out for is the guys who make that taco crawl box thing (paging @BigMike ) seem to be working on an upgraded rack for our trucks. I'll be getting it once it releases, more than likely. They have a video on the tube and it's obnoxious

    I think you got all of your bases covered, but you made it sound super easy than it actually is. I got 35x12.5 tires and they still rub after doing all the stuff you mentioned.
    Suspension wise, i can't answer that for you. It all depends on what are you planning on doing with the truck. If you are planning on actually wheeling the truck, better spend upfront and cry once. I got Kings all around with compression adjuster and custom Alcan leaf pack in the rear. I love the compression adjuster because I disconnected the sway bar so I can change the ride quality quickly depending on the situation. For weight, if you are going to wheel, weight will be added unless you want some serious trophies on your new truck. So, keep that in mind. Also, make sure you do your homework on rims and tires because offset and backspacing is going to be huge when it comes to 35's. Good luck!

    Having a compression adjuster really peaked my interest. My budget is about to skyrocket haha. I guess I just have to decide on a brand, currently I’m still thinking icon but the different stages honestly confuse the heck out of me.

    I Don’t believe these have any compression adjustion do they?

    No these don't have compression adjusters.

    There is a limit on every truck. Making any of these modifications introduces some amount of risk. How much risk and what is acceptable is a deeply personal driver decision.

    Messing with too many things like lifting, changing spring bounce, dampening rate, tires etc. can modify the ride so much that you may no longer enjoy driving it, or you push the vehicle to where you may be more susceptible to roll over or loss of vehicle control on roads.

    I think the Tacomas are well-built and have more margin of error than other trucks, but I think 35" and 3" are my personal limit. "I'm only at 33" today

    Yeah I think I understand what you what mean. I commented on an earlier post where I mentioned having a 370z. It was my DD but I got so into it, it became a track car by the end. By then i hated driving it. It was low, stiff as hell, loud, and just a pain to drive anywhere that wasn’t a track. I wish there was a try before you buy for most of this stuff.

    I stopped buying sports cars to tune up, and started buying cars I liked to drive stock.

    I had a BMW Z3 M that I miss dearly, but OMMFG have they skyrocketed in value recently. I have a Z4 now that just about anyone would drive like James Bond with his foot on fire, but to me it's meh.

    Ha I like how you echoed how I felt when I overdid the mods instead of quitting when I had it real nice

    Yeah funny thing was I was having more fun driving a stock Scion tC than the 370z. I ended up driving everything BUT my car lol. In hindsight it’s difficult to see when you’ve gone too far. I think it’s easy to get caught up with mods and once you do go too far you’ve already messed up lol and we just deal with it.

    To be honest this whole thread has me rethinking 35s. Especially when someone commented on steering being a pain. So I’ll still buy some decent suspension that’ll give me a 3” lift just Incase, but I don’t want my past modding experiences to replay with my taco.

    I think Icons are too stiff and don’t have as good of quality control as ADS. I run ADS extended travel fronts and Emu rears at the moment with dakars. The ADS are adjustable and have a great ride that is very smooth on or off-road. I can actually tell the difference in my front vs my rear. Can’t wait to get matching rears. One thing I particularly noticed is these shocks is that they feel very confident at high speed.

    1”-3” depending on what you set them at. My front fender sits 37.25” high vs a TRD Pro which sits at 35.25”. My spring preload is like 1 1/8”


    You can get 600, 650, or 700 lb springs depending on how much weight you run.

    That’s where I start getting lost. Suspension company’s have so many different levels of suspension i can’t quite see that fine line between overkill and not. Also why the 700lb springs?

    I bought directly from ADS. I only bought fronts (2.5 extended travel adjustable resi 700#) for now until my rear OME shocks wear out. Called them and according to the guy at ADS with my lo-pro bumper and winch (130lbs) the 700 lb spring makes the truck sit right and ride the best. He was right
