Leaf spring recall

Found out that my 07 Tacoma
Needed to come in for the leaf spring recall. I was really surprised they would even do the recall with the truck having 239,000 miles. The truck is lifted 3" I didn't want to take any chances with them denying mine due to it having the Deaver add-a-leaf along with the one inch lift blocks so I went ahead and took the springs apart and put them back to stock but I did leave the spacer block because I've heard other people did it with no issues. They went ahead and did the warranty work but I was really surprised at how soft the new springs are, it's actually a 4 leaf pack instead of a 3. I was thinking I would get some additional lift and a stiffer ride but it was actually just opposite. After the work was done I went ahead and put the Deaver leaf springs back in and it seems to be sitting a little higher than it originally did which is fine with me. I did a before measurement at the wheel well but I haven't had a chance to check it now that the new springs are in. My guess is that Toyota used a lower tensile strength steel and knowing that the springs would be softer added the additional spring to compensate.
By doing this I suppose the springs won't crack or fracture as easily but at the cost of a much softer spring steel.

 

Sold my new TSB springs for $300 and put in Dakar’s . Toyota springs had my truck sitting real low in the rear . Even with a 2” AAL !

 

Here's a picture after they did the work. The springs are actually bending downward. It almost seems as though these springs were rated for a regular cab and not a double cab TRD sport.

 

My rear was crooked and sitting an inch and a half lower than the front after frame swap with the new Toyota springs .

 

I'm wondering if Toyota purposely made them soft so they won't have any issues with them cracking and possibly going into the fuel tank

 

It's sitting much better now with the additional leaf back in. Hopefully I won't have any issues with these new springs after they settle in

 

Got dark on me last night after I finished but definitely setting a little higher than it did with the original setup

 

I lost over an inch when I had the TSB done.

 

I was told by Toyota that since the truck was sitting so low in the back after the springs were replaced that I would have to come back once I had it corrected and setting at the proper height to match the front. They said they would do the four wheel alignment. They originally said this was part of the recall and it would be covered if it needs to be aligned but when I was getting ready to leave the dealership they said just the check was covered and not the actual alignment.

 

I took mine back because it was sitting so low, they told me pretty much to go pound sand. So I added a 2" aal, that corrected it and gave me a little rake for now.
