But seriously, have some compassion. That F and I guy is stuck in that room like 10 hours a day being told No and getting dirty looks. Cut him some slack.

Don't need to pay extra to be told "that's normal for your vehicle."

Just remember when your in the finance office everything is a scam. The finance guy makes big money off all those extras.

To be fair, it’s not really a scam. You are actually purchasing an application of Xylon or whatever. You do GET extra months of warranty. As the finance guy said previously, its not financially advantageous to purchase these items from the dealership. If you are hyper concerned about major electrical issues and you are willing to keep up with dealer scheduled maintenance then the cost of an extended warranty may be cheaper than visits to your therapist for anxiety.

Ok I'll agree not everything is a scam but everything is negotiable if you do purchase any extras. It just means a smaller commission for them.

My 1st new purchase ever. 2003 Ranger Extended Cab 4x4. 20 years old. They saw me coming. Worked in 7 year for 72 month for like $1200. Part of the loan. I never even knew. When I got the first itemized loan payment I saw it. It was refundable, which I did and got almost all of it back. I bet 50% of us have been there.

Scam? Maybe, maybe not. But certainly scummy. Using fear tactics and trickery earns them rightful scorn.

I always just tell them up front not to waste your time. Never had an issue saying no on the past five vehicle purchases.

Literally negotiated the price in 5 mins, took 1/2 an hour to tell the finance guy I didn’t want his crap. He told me I needed the extended warranty and I said I didn’t and that I have a mechanic I trust after the 2 year warranty is up and he told me that an outside mechanic voids my warranty. I laughed saying in 2 years the warranty is up anyways so who cares who I have work on my truck after that and walked out.

Ditto. The way cars are being sold has changed a bunch. Sales guy say that they (his dealership and maybe the industry) changed the incentives for their sales force. I didnt ask for details but I gathered that sales associates now earn the bulk of their salary based on just being at the dealership. For him, he prefers quick, no hassle sales.

With Toyota's reputation of reliability, I find this scenario quite humorous... told the guy something similar.

With no guidance, yeah. Especially back then when people were super secretive about what they paid.

It's not a bad idea to use the tactic of being the guy who says hell no to everything. No extended warranty, no tire protection, no gap insurance, ,no anything.

Okay then at the very end when he is rolling up a goose egg, you hit them with a low-ball offer on what you do want which puts him in a tough position because he is expected to hit attatch rate metrics. Avoiding the act of telling his boss he sold "$0" can be a major motivator.

These metrics are a funny thing if you were on pace to hit a monthly bonus would you take a small margin hit or even a small loss to improve your attach rate? $1050 is what I paid for the 7yr extended which is $21/mo. Pretty fair. Made him happy

All that extra stuff is highly negotiable like stated.

If you had to get gap insurance and you happen to buy an extended warranty and you decide to sell the truck the warranty is transferable in most cases. If you trade it in then you can get a prorated amount back on the warranty and gap insurance.

I recently purchased a new Honda for the wife and they pitched gap insurance. I typically don't put any money down, because interest rates are so low I'd rather have the money invested. Anyway USAA offers their equivalent of gap insurance, basically it pays an additional 20% of the value of the car. This was by far cheaper than the dealer and a better offer IMHO.

How bout the lost keys B.S., Windshield or the tire and wheel protection.

They prey on the dumb ass group.

Most folks have total coverage with their auto policy.

Stay away from any additional stickers added to the windshield like paint protection or market adjustment
price, especially on a TRD Pro. Remember, you can always walk and go to another dealer.
Don't never, ever buy on a Saturday.

Just the truck negotiated price and nothing else.

Last option, tell them to kiss your ass if all else fails. You are their boss.

The last few new cars I’ve bought I’ve had a price settled with the “internet manager” before I hit the lot. I like to start with a dealership far away and then shamelessly forward best price quotes to closer and closer dealerships. They all match or beat. My last 2 Toyota’s I was able to get at my local dealership. My wife’s Armada’s closest Nissan place actually said no thanks and we ended up at a place about 35 miles away. Got our best price and still plan to do the free oil changes locally but we had to drive to pick it up. No biggie.

I did this with our latest purchase. Fantastic experience. Email is great because if a sales manager gives you shit, you already have the price in writing. I will never negotiate in person again.

Excellent point. Liberty Mutual offers their "New Car Replacement" with standard policy.

I forgot I switched to them for that reason when I got my Z4.

If you plan to mod your truck (silly question, I know), be aware that some mods will negate any warranties.

Forget all that crapola including so called gap insurance. Tell him/her that if he/she tries to sell you any kind of add-on, you will get up and leave. Period.!!!! Dont be a sucker .... all that stuff is available aftermarket at a fraction of their cost, they just want to suck on your wallet/thats why folks here call them stealers, not dealers...just post these good folks on this forum for suggestions after purchase. Good luck.
