Hi All. Some advice needed. I just installed a new TRD Pro Exhaust this morning. Took it for a drive and after about 10 miles, at a stop light, I noticed some white smoke out my passenger side mirror that looked like it was coming from the tail pipe. Also smelled something like burning plastic/oil after driving the truck.

Just coming home right now from the movies I had another episode of the smell.

Between these episodes I took shorter trips around town with no smoke or smell. The times that I smelled something was after freeway use. Should I be concerned or is it the exhaust breaking itself in?

Could this connection may have gotten loose on install? Is the small gap in the first picture normal?AA45BEB4-3E82-4384-B2B4-4B54C635E680.jpgEF18F3FE-D270-4A6A-B779-43FFD95CB0D7.jpg

Exhaust breaking in. Pay it no mind, but if you continue to see excessive white smoke those could be red flags for something big.

I haven’t seen any more white smoke since the first episode. Just the smell. Gonna take it for a drive tomorrow morning and add a few more miles to it and see if any problems come up.

That’s normal that’s just the exhaust breaking in it will go away once you put a couple more miles in. I had the same situation when I installed my trd exhaust..nothing to worry about

Sounds like just the protective coating from the new pipe burning off.

Keep driving it. The smell should calm down As you use it.

It's normal, just the protective oil on the inner piping burning off.
Had the same thing happen on my dual exhaust. After 50ish miles, the smoke died out. Smell lingered for about 100+ miles.
500 miles in and the loudness had mellowed out.

I do not have that gap in the piping though.
Also what are those spring loaded bolts?

Some of that white smoke could also be condensation. Perfectly normal with any exhaust system....but especially on a system that's long like the Taco's

True, especially if short trips are the norm. Fuel burn = water vapor....does water drip out of your exhaust after a drive? Ever notice cars in front of you dripping water out of exhaust pipe? Longer trips will burn that vapor out. Short trips = short exhaust system life.

I had a 79 bronco I restored back in the mid 90's and coated the whole underneath of the body with used oil cut in kerosene since I lived in the northeast and I took it down the highway and had a white cloud for miles since the oil dripped all over the exhaust...couldn't see behind me...lol, I did my job contributing to the environment...haha

How's the tone of that trd exhaust. I have the mbrp 3" and although I've gotten used to it, it's very loud. It's also a piece of garbage and will most likely rust to shit in a year. Can anyone compare the sound of these two?

I've had white smoke issues in the past and it was always the grease I used for the hangers. Years ago i had no grease or any lube for whatever reason so i used a stick of butter and there was white smoke and my exhaust smelled like popcorn for a day or two.
