If rain is your main issue... you do not want a thornbird, sx or trxus. As far as weight goes, best weight savings is switching to bias (especially if you have a different tire for daily driving), but those won't be as good on pavement, period. That said, my bias Iroks are decent, not crazy loud, ride at 75mph unbalanced pretty well, and have lots of siping so arent terrible in rain... but theyll only last 20k miles, and are nowhere near a radial on the road

Bighorns seem to be pretty decent for the price especially

I've got a good 15k miles left in the KM2s if I treat them right. Just trying to plan ahead a bit.

Are you looking for a tire for daily and wheeling? or still plan on having 2 sets of rubber

I'd like to stay on one set of tires eventually

Oh gotcha, so not bias haha

What are your thoughts on Cooper STT Pro? Seems like a good option.
Or Dick Cepek. Those were the lightest mud radials I could find, that's why I got them for the Tacoma. And they use cooper rubber compound now. I really loved those tires, and they impressed the guys I wheel with. Come in a 255 too (@Knoxdavid34 runs them)

Hell, I may just get 17" wheels and increase my choices altogether.

No. Because they are awful lol. Search around pirate and there’s jokes abound about thornbirds.

I’m not a BFG fan either, something is off in their compound that causes the tire to harden up really bad and crack inside of 4 years or so in my experience on KM2’s.

FWIW, I’m super happy with my Maxxis Razr MT’s. Good street manners and they hook up awesome on the trail too. They’ve got options in 16” from 265 up to 315/75

There are actually a lot of reports about BFG cracking "too soon". My personal thoughts, new tires should be bought by then too. Or at least the person isn't enjoying the vehicle to the fullest and having any fun at all.

I’m a big believer in replacing tires every 5-6 years regardless of wear but cracking at the 4 year mark is unacceptable to me.

Some of the other guys have mentioned Coopers too. I’ve been super happy with multiple sets of them since 2009 on 3/4 ton tow rigs.

Hankook makes a nice MT too...really nice and soft compound that hooks up and still wears well. I had a set of 285/75r16’s on my DD third gen 4Runner and I had a set of 35x12.5r15’s on the Tacoma when it was my DD

Cooper = Mickey Thompson = Mastercraft. All 3 are made by Cooper. The STT PRO is hands down the best mud tire I've ever owned. (Had KM1/KM2 on my Dodge) tried quite a few brands. Coopers wear good, ride smooth, balance well, and dig in dirt, mud, and on rocks. They run sales often. Just don't make em in your 255/85....They DO have em in Cooper Maxx though. You'll find a lot of happy owners.

I think I drive too much, definitely more than what is considered average. I've put about 40k on my truck since June 2016

33K since last year at Harlan. Average per year over 4-1/2 years with this truck closer to 29K

Maybe I just need to find some P265 tires for daily that are lighter, have good on road features, and will satiate my size/look requirements. Sell the Grabbers for a couple doll hairs, keep the KM2s for trail riding only.
