Advice for a long healthy marriage

The opposite.

We eloped and didn’t waste thousands on a party that lasts a few hours.
We spent them on things we could enjoy longer.

I have never understood why some folks who, like me, have to live on a tight budget still want to have an expensive party instead of investing the money in something useful.

 

27 years. Ever now and then, watch some of her shitty tv shows with her.
Also, and this may be the most important one of all, don't play Hide the Weenie with anyone but her.

If her hormones are causing her to say crazy things, don't point it out, leave the room/house. (This was learned the hard way)

 

We got married pretty much the moment I turned 18. We had about $8,000 in savings so its not like we were broke but we had possibilities. We didnt want to blow it on a party. I was a little worried we would regret it but we don’t. We would do it over the same way today.

Funds went towards saving for college and a home.

That being said... if my spouse wanted the fancy party I’d be the guy working 3 jobs to not take money out of savings to pay for it. Gotta keep your partner happy. Lol

 

Marriage isn't long (3 years, together for 5), but there can be some bickering about the way the dishwasher is loaded. My wife is a little OCD with that.

Only thing I'd add to what's already been said is make sure you make some time for each other if/when you have kids.

If so, I hope you're getting more ass than I am.

 

1. If you are at social gathering with other women around don't drink. Shit can quickly go downhill weather or not something transpired.
2. Ring upgrade at year 10.
3. renew vows at 25 years. Ring upgrade of course.
4. Take bride every so often to outlet malls and let her buy a couple designer purses (on sale of course).
5. #4 above makes it easier on Tacoma upgrades.
6. Do all the "man" shit around the house and some of the "woman" shit. It will go a long way on keeping things civil around the homestead.
7. Stay in shape and encourage her to do same. If she looses her fitness jealousy of other women will surely creep in.

 

If you are wrong, admit it. If you are right, shut up.

Regardless of the opponent, always be on the same team.

Find a way to show and/or tell your spouse you love them each and every day. A "just because I love you" gift goes farther than a birthday/Christmas/anniversary gift since it is given from the heart instead of to celebrate an occasion.

What's up with the dishwasher thing? My wife is the same way.

 

Married 6, together 10. I'd say value your relationship more than your ego. Neither of you have to be right all the time. Compromise. Have fun. Make time for her and vise versa. That works for us.

 

Just particular about things being done a certain way. It's the same with folding. I am not allowed anywhere near shirts for folding (not that I'm complaining about that).

 

If she is talking just put your phone down. You don't even need to listen as long at it looks like you are listening.

 

Almost made 47 yrs but lost her to cancer. My advice pick your battles! if it's petty, let it go.
