Cool. Good luck on the purchase. Get a cb if you can. Don't worry too much about the straps. While it's something you're going to eventually need, we'll have plenty of them on the trip.

Pretty sure that one is $35. It doesn't have any of the fancy features but will communicate in an off road trail setting just fine. They're easy as hell to install. Power and ground wires is it. The most difficult part of the installation is figuring out where to mount the damn thing. CB's do not come with an antenna. You can get one at Radio shack for like $25-$35. The "best" Firestick antennas are like $60 I think.

I'm gonna try that breather mod, which I should have done a long time ago.

I don't have a grill to bring, but if someone does, I can bring a case of burgers, around 30, for one night. I'll also pick up some other groceries before.

Some how I managed to come up with some extra money thi month to pay for gas.

I don't know if 1st gens have the same diff breather issues or not. You'll have to get underneath and see.

I have a little charcoal grill but it could only 4-6 patties at a time. We'd probably need at least 2 of them going. I also have a big screened in canopy. It's kind of bulky and takes a while to set up but it's very nice once it's up. EZ-UP's are a lot faster and handier.

:woot: I look forward to seeing the new 4runner. What year is it? Is it the fairly stock one you were talking about? I'll update the first post.

I'll also soon get a sign up sheet going for community supplies.

Going and running Black Bear Pass today! I'll bring back some pictures...

I'm bringing a cooler, extra water, munchies, hot dogs, canned stuff like chili or pork and beans. Also I may bring some MRE's. I think we should keep in mind the possibility of a burn ban. With the recent wildfires, do you think our trip could be affected?

If we have a burn ban we can't use open fires but we can still usually use little grills and camp stoves. May I suggest one of my favorite camping recipes that works well in a ban situation too. Pre-make burritos at home with rice, cheese, meat, whatever (just not wet stuff that will get it soggy) and wrap them individually in foil. Stick them in a big ziploc and keep them in the cooler. Heat a pan on the camp stove and stick the still foil wrapped burrito on the pan for a while. Warms up beautifully, gets a crispy browned tortilla, and creates zero mess. Throw the foil away and your mess is done.

Here are a few cell phone pictures I took up there this weekend. A lot of the stuff is still closed due to snow (the vast majority of it is melted but there are still a few thick spots from avalanches on north faces) but we should be good on our trip. I went over Ophir Pass which is the easiest trail we'll potentially take. As usual, the pictures do no justice to the real beauty. I can post some more in anyone's interested.

These are just pretty pictures during the less exciting areas. I always forget to take pictures in the difficult sections. I guess I'm busy concentrating on the trail. Unfortunately, I'm just not much of a photography guy either. These are just taken with my phone. If you guys bring real cameras, and skills, you'll get poster quality images. Again, these are just pictures on or near Ophir Pass which is one of the easiest rated trails up there.

At the moment it will just be me and the wife as well. We got a small tent and all of our regular camping gear.
