Sedans really don't make sense anymore. Once they started making decent looking, fuel efficient smaller SUVs, sedans are now going the way of the dodo bird.

Agreed. The death of sedans has been written on the walls for some time now.

Chrysler started eliminating cars and now Ford, wonder how long before other manufacturers start cutting them too.

The 86 would sell better with a real Toyota motor. No one wants an under powered boxer

15 years ago when I was in my mid-20's I remember everyone I knew driving a "sporty" two door car. Now I work with a dozen or so "young professionals" only 2-5 years out of college, some married, most not, with no kids, and they ALL drive sedans or small SUV's. Not one coupe in the parking lot.

Problem in my mind is that most two door "sport coupes" available don't provide a lot of value for the price unless you just love cars and the thrill of driving. Also, I think its hard for "younger" people, just out of school, with the boatloads of student debt to justify those cars. If they do get one they soon find the sporty car they bought is pretty impractical and expensive to insure in comparison to all the sedans and small SUV's that constantly have big incentives or 0% financing. Then marriage and kids happen and you're driving a crossover SUV.

It’s also the boring engine. At 25 I bought a Focus ST, wasn’t married then and no children (still not married with no kids ) but even at that age I looked at the BRZ and said “for the same price I get 4 doors with a usable back seat, great trunk space, and more importantly much more HP/TQ in the ST or a GTI!?”
Sure you can’t compare FWD to RWD but put a nice 6 speed manual into a turbo 4 and I couldn’t care less which wheels were moving me along.

And now at 30 I jumped to a Tacoma haha

    Late to the party but
Once people get older it becomes harder to get into cars that sit really low to the ground . Suv's are awesomely easy to get into and out of . I believe this is also a reason the sedan is dying . We are fine with the Tacoma but the wife needed the predator steps and grab handle to be comfortable getting into the 2016 TRDOR . Her car is a awd SUV and loves it .

The people who would buy a 86 or a BRZ already have one and likely won’t buy another until it gets a needed remodel. But I doubt Subaru or Toyota will have the guts to do it. It’s too bad. Those are nice drivers cars with available manual transmissions. Sadly in today’s world, if it’s not a hybrid or double clutch sports car, it won’t get green lit.

I'd trade my Tacoma AND Leuxs in a heart beat for that thing.

uhh no. maybe 1000hp for a half reliably daily. any supra that's pushing 2000+ hp is in the shop getting a rebuild after every run. only marketable thing about that car was the 2jz and stock it was a slouch just like the new supra will be.

I may be a bit out on a limb here, but in my opinion part of this change stems from an overall decline in interest towards actually driving. My boss's son is 18, just got his license, but has zero interest in driving. He sees it as a chore more than an opportunity. Plus I look at what is now available feature wise and less of the features are about how the vehicle actually handles, and more about how it can connect with social media and give the driver less responsibility on the road. Take that plus the trend of being "outdoorsy" and the sports car/sedan doesn't really fit. It seems to me like more and more people want to give off an image of being "unique and adventurous every step of the way" without actually being either of those things but they'll lease a Jeep Renegade to help perpetuate that image.

I agree. My 16 year old cousin is in driver's ed.. once he started driving, they realized a giant problem. His entire life as a passenger in a vehicle, he's had a screen in front of his face. He literally has no idea what land marks are around. He'll just drive straight until they tell him to turn. I'm sure he's not alone, I think there's going to be an entire generation with the same issue. I'm sure there are exceptions to the rule, but for the most part, it's a problem.
