I haven't bought yet but am getting all my research done now. First new vehicle that I have bought in a looooong time.

I have heard of something you can coat the paint with to make it super easy to clean and protects against swirls, etc. and you can still wax on top of it. If true what is this called? I also plan to get 3M tape installed too
EDIT: Just found my local tint dealer offers this (http://premiumshield.com)

What would be the best under carriage spray? I will most likely getting this truck in the middle of winter so I would drive straight to a place to have this done, then to the place to protect the paint

Under Carriage protection..fLuid film or similar type applications . Stay away from the Rubberized undercoatings or the waxy coatings that harden onto the metal. Fluid film yearly and properly applied by a pro, fluhing out the salt every spring... and your golden.

    Look Into Krown Rust Proofing

I had opti-coat pro plus put on my paint.

if you are going to put 3m film on the truck do it before any cermanic coating are applied if you go that route. you dont need waxes with the cermamic coatings.

Heres the video the detailer shot after application on my actual truck for his Facebook page. This coating is warrantied for 7 years

    Work in progress...
I would rinse it off as often as possible, if I lived in rust territory, that is about all I would do. Any thing you spray on is bound to let something get under it. That is just what I am thinking at the moment. Out here in the desert some folks like to put down a weed barrier when they land scape their lawns. I learned, the hard way, better to leave out the barrier so the Roundup can sink down in there and kill the weeds.

There’s a lot of claims that show it traps the corrosive properties of salty road and moisture and it well eat away at the metal under the rubber. Things condensate under rubber differently.

I have ceramic pro installed, gold package. 4 coats, lifetime warranty.

I live in the middle of no where with gravel/dirty roads and have no access to car washes. 1 hr hand wash and it shines like it's new. Not to mention it looks cleaner for longer. I also have 3M applied.

Stay away from dealer-installed 3M. They use cheap materials. Go to a reputable paint protection shop.

You’ll get the best bang for your bucks from darker colors since they show swirl marks and other imperfections. I would not bother with an expensive ceramic coat on white or silver.

You have a lot of options in the coating space. G-Techniq, Nanolex and Gyeon are some very reputable brands. There are other options that offer varying levels of protection that are easier to apply if you're going to do it yourself. I'd find a reputable detailing shop in your area. Typically they're trained in application of a particular brand. You'll want them to do a "new car prep" followed by the coating application. The prep is very important as it fixes all the things left on the paint during the transportation process and by dealer hands. Contrary to popular belief paint isn't in very good condition when a vehicle is released by the dealer. If you're going to take the vehicle straight to the detailer or even within a week, I would instruct the dealership to not "detail" the car. Their detailing process typically does more harm than good.

As for paint protection film (PPF), I'd encourage you to find an installer that uses Xpel or SunTek. 3Ms products are not bad per se (nor is LLumar), but the quality of the Xpel and SunTek products is better IMO. What that equates to is much better appearance and durability of the film over time.

typically id say budget $150 for the treatment. If you go to Krown Rust proofing website and lookup for your area you can get their pricing for your vehicle type. https://krown.com/en/locations/

they harden they trap moisture/salts in behind and start to rot the hell out of your frame. Fluid film in the fall and a good underbody flush every year in late spring ..

This video shows what ive seen quite a few times when we used this rubberized system on our fleet vehicles and bad frame rot. We use Krown fluid film now every fall and rust is not a problem.

    It’s called a ceramic coating.

Quality ones cost a lot of money to have professionally installed. ($1,000-$2,500) and most of them only last 5 years, not forever.

I’m an avid detailer and I don’t think they are worth the money.

You can get ceramic coats to install yourself every 1-2 years.

If you know how to properly wash your vehicle and have quality products you can maintain yourself for so much cheaper.

I lay a sealer once a year and that works for me.

It was $2000 cdn for my tacoma, which works out to $1500 usd. It was 4 coats and is warrantied for the lifetime of the vehicle. Yeah it's basically a hard clear coat that protects the paint. I would get it again in a heartbeat.

Truck doesn bead like it used to do but it still shines like it was just waxed and the truck is never garaged.

Two best things to protect your paint is:
    1) A garage.
    2) yourself. Anyone comes by your truck just protect it.
