So, I need to run an errand or two, and I decide I will take the Taco to wash off some of Sundays rain, bugs, and birds. I get to the WalMart lot, going the RIGHT way, and out of the corner of my eye I see a small car veering of the outgoing drive and into my ingoing. Hard left, BAM! It MOVED the Tacoma; he must have already hit 30 mph. I'm cussing a lot! Some scraggly kid in a maybe Mazda sports beater - the kind that just smells of "no insurance". I am cussing some more. Look at the passenger rear of Little Big Red, uh..... can't find a scrath (I didn't already have). He must have hit the steel bumper on a corner blow. Well, his primer front fascia is hanging down on the ground, and the now broken headlight assembly is vertically hanging down in the hole. Kid says "it looks like only my car is damaged". I say "yep", and go park Little Big Red. Glad I didn't have the Niro, and lets hear it for real steel bumpers!

    Always always this.

People aren't trustworthy and you need to be covered for any damage that isn't readily visible.

Nope. Not if I have no damage. Last time I got reared in my Prius, I called the cops, was not at fault, both cars insured, and my insurance company would do NOTHING for me. Would not even go after the other company. If I want, I "can file my claim with my own company, pay the deductible, and I would go down as at fault." Say what? After 20+ years - same company. Hello Flo! If I don't have a problem, I am walking away.

Having just been under there this Sunday at Triple C, I even know what the dirt looks like. I can see the only tiny black mark on the back corner of the bumper, and satisfied that the move I made was virtually all forward, because I was already in a turn. Nothing metal on that shit car hit the truck.

I can understand your POV, especially if your insurance refused to cover damages done to your vehicle in an accident that wasn't your fault. At the end of the day, that's a crappy insurance company, and why I don't use them (for those of you who aren't aware, USAA is underwritten by Progressive).

Even if you don't file with insurance, having a police report is documentation and serves as a CYA because you never know what the other driver will do. Documentation is everything.

We're just looking out for you! :)

perhaps so. But I looked pretty well for any clue that plastic beat steel, and found none. And the company I left for Progressive (that I now have) was Texas Farm Bureau. Local Agent - now run by the state office. Progressive isn't thrilling, but they also saved me a few hundreds, until my sons paid for 2005 Prius turned in to a I got a loan to pay 2012. Appreciate the caring, but I looked it over well enough, and did a reconstruction that leaves me confident I have little to worry about.:itllbuffout:

@Wju - Thank you for taking care of pops. He just called and is on the way out to see ya.

His doctors appointment he's leaving from said he has had a stroke sometime recently (multiple traumas including a pole saw failing and firing the blade straight into his eye about a year ago) and they are monitoring the changes in his brain.
