Quicksand Paint Tireshine problem

So you’re implying that these vehicles do not have a clear coat and use a single stage paint?

 

Yeah it’s one thing if you did it yourself it’s like well...crap, but paint looking a-okay on the lot and then getting messed up because of some tireshine bullshit is stupid.

 

My new Taco had that tire shine crap applied by the barrel full. I decided washing the tires and rims would be a good thing. I didn't wash the lower body panels at that time. When I finally washed the truck, I noticed quite a few black dots on the lower body panels. Washing removed the ones above the orange peel painted area, but not on the orange peel painted area itself. But mine is blue and the dots aren't really visible.

 

Toyota offered too fix the truck,either let them fix it or forget it,they offered you a fix,since you dont want the truck repainted Toyota is off the hook legally.

 

The clear coat is mixed with the base coat so no, it’s not a two stage paint. Only metallic/pearl paint jobs have two stage paint. The CC in say, the super white, makes it shine but doesn’t protect it in any way, shape, or form.

I have a hard time believing tire shine would cause etching in paint. They have go to be spraying some other product on there.

But thats irrelevent because its their fault regardless.

I would push for a truck replacement. But you may never be successful with that.

I would never buy another truck at that dealership again.

You may want to reach out to a Lemon Law attorney and see if they’d be willing to give you advice on your options and let you know what the legal responsibilities of the dealer are. This may not be a large enough case for them to pursue but you might be able to get some advice at least.

 

Yup. Came here to say this. Quicksand is a single stage mixed paint. There is no clear coat.

 

You really aren’t reading well.
OP is experiencing etching from what ever product they used to do whatever.

But deep etching can only be solved be a respray.

Take the arrogance down a notch. The dealer has already stated the truck HAS to be repainted to fix. Its not a petty issue.

 

Most tires are treated with an anti mold agent. This agent reacts with tire shine, especially ones that are silicone based. When gooped on or comes in contact with water, it gets flung onto the sides. Silicone based shine is like WD-40. It beads the water up so when it flings off, it makes perfect little dots on your truck that stain. This agent in conjunction with tire shine that causes this issue is known as “tire blooming”. So no, it’s not actually the “shine” by itself.

The only thing that can be done (before hand) is to pressure wash the tire with a degreaser and scrub brush to remove the agent. Then use shine only after tire is completely clean. This minimizes the effect.

Like I said earlier, this happened to me. It took 5 days but all the dots faded into oblivion.

I’ve used rubber and plastic dressings that can stain the paint and require polishing to remove but nothing bad enough to lead to the etching the OP describes.

That had to be left on for awhile or some bizzare reaction. Or someone sprayed what they thought was tire shine and was really brake cleaner or some shit that ate the paint.
