    I hit an Elk last Thursday. Just over 3k miles on truck. I'd installed a knock Pro grill the week before. Live at 9200 feet above sea level on back side of Pikes Peak in Divide Co. The road on the way home is 3 miles of up and down steep hills. Was only doing about 40MPH and elk was about 6 feet past the crest of steepest hill. No time to react. No physical harm to me, and elk jumped a fence and ran into the forest, to die I'm sure. No structural damage to truck, but 10K to fix the light scratches. Made me sick, I love this truck and only done a couple of minor mods. Hadn't even done 1st oil change. Glad I have good insurance.

    Was planning Southern Style slimline hybrid bumper with hidden winch. And thought great time to do it since it's been prepped. Unfortunately they have 6-8 week lead time and truck will be fixed and back on the road by then. I will still do it, but probably in spring.

    ouch!! just get the cash for the bumper costs from insurance if not too late. then call all bumper manufacturers to see if somebody has anything in stock, then take what is available!

    Sucks man....9200 ft above sea level? All the guys complaining about lack of power should drive up there lol. Hope you get er fixed.

    Did the TSS help detect the Elk? Did it help at all? I wonder about this as I live in pig country on a toll road with a posted speed limit of 85mph.

    I hit a deer the other day and the TSS didn't flinch. One ran in front of me and I avoided it, the second came a little later than usual and I hit it. I was going slow and didn't have any damage, but when the first one popped out I was easily going 40+. It's gone off 3 times when there is nothing near me driving down an open road..and failed when something actually ran in front of me.


    OP, glad you are safe, and it looks like the taco can take a big hit and do okay, so that's reassuring to see. Sorry you had to be the test dummy! I like the slimline bumper you are talking about and have thought about it myself, only question is, would that have even changed much? Might need a big cow pusher to make a difference in a crash like this.

    Glad your okay & looks like the truck held up pretty good considering.

    Regarding TSS, Toyota should have made it a stand alone option. I had a loaner Tacoma with TSS & it went off with nothing in front of me twice. The radar cruise control is a joke. It sets the distance to far apart even at closest setting & slams on brakes to slow down. These systems are a nightmare to diagnose when customers have issues as well.

    Workin' on it....
    Glad you're ok OP and that there was no frame damage. Being that you are in CO with plenty of wildlife you may want to do a full plate bumper to offer more protection than just the slimline winch tray unless you don't like the look of the full bumper in which case stick with the tray.
