Opinions on age of this deer? Looking at face, low hanging jowls, and thick brisket I am guessing 7+.

I'd have guessed 4-5, from the fairly flat stomach. Tough to say about the neck from the angle that he's holding it at, but he looks like he still has a good line between the shoulder and the neck.

Although I hear that only bucks that are 8+ can fit a raccoon up their butt. :notsure:

Hahaha! it is a tough angle to judge and this is the only picture we got of him.

    Probably field dress around 250-275

Axis deer usually max out around 175, I think. Those aren't Axis deer, though.

No idea. I would think that it would tend to spook them, but on the other hand I have an uncle who smokes in his tree stand and has dropped a deer nearly every year for as long as I can remember. :notsure:

I do know, however, that it's enough to spook turkeys in the spring. But, nearly anything is enough to spook turkeys in the spring.

If you can smell cig smoke in the woods you must be close to another hunter:annoyed:my dads friend is one of those guys who can not sit for long and you can follow him by tracking the cig butts on the ground o_O

Got the 6.5 creedmoor sighted in with new ammo, shooting 2 inches high at 100 yards, dead on at 200 and about 2.5 inches low at 300. Looking forward to this Saturday! :playball:

Not a very good one, but their vision is sharp enough that they can probably see the smoke clouds getting exhaled. And they can definitely see you if you move around enough to take the cig out of your mouth. :notsure:

All I know is that he kills deer like a champ but he's never killed a turkey. And he can't sit still for as long as it takes to call a turkey in without having a smoke. When we're deer hunting whenever he's on a stand he has to fire one up every 20-30 minutes.

The deer do weird things down there. They don't hit peak up here until the 3rd week of November-ish. There's usually only a few random bucks chasing does for the first week or two of deer season.

Historically it's late October to fist week of November in Jack county Texas. Then a small 3-4 day rut for the does that didn't take.

Here it seems like it takes a stretch of really good cold weather (at least a few days straight of highs in the 40's and overnight lows below freezing) to kick the rut into gear.

We really don't get any real cold winter till after season is over. Your right though cold does affect them.
