33x12.5 Duratracs or any other 32x11.5 AT Tire?

i had my mind set on getting an AT tire in 32x11.5 since they are all mostly in the same weight range since their C rated (46-48 lbs) but then i was looking at the wrangler duratracs and they only weigh 48lbs in 33x12.5. The 33's def look sweeter but i only have a 4 cyl and i was worried about too much weight and roll resistance with that size tire, but they weigh the exact same as any other AT tire in a 32x11.5 size.

So now i'm wondering A.) whether my 4 cyl could handle these and B.) since i have the 5100's in front set at 2.5 would that even be enough to clear 33x12.5's on a rim 8 inch with 3.75 backspacing?

and the Duratracs don't come in 32x11.5 cuz otherwise i would just make it easy on myself haha

I'm running into the same questions myself, except that I'm currently running 265/75R16s and thinking about putting on 285/75R16s on stock 16" wheels and hoping there wont be much rubbing.

I think you're going to be out of luck with the 33's though, at least with out some new fenders. There really just isn't all that much extra room in the wheel well. With people complaining about minor rubbing with 285s, you're really going to be rubbing all over the place with the 33", even with the less backspacing.

What I plan to do when I'm ready to buy is to just go down to the tire place and see if they'll try it on to see how much rubbing there is and if its something I can cut/bend to make it all better or not. Worst case is I just stick with the same size I have and call it good. It really is only an inch difference for me. Duratracks are pretty thick on the tread, so I'm hoping I can get away with it.

As far as Duratracs, they have them in 285/75R16, which I believe translates pretty close to the 32x11.5. Those are the ones I've been looking at for myself, although they are the more expensive E rated tires. Duratrac goes all the way up to 315/75R16 for 16" wheels. http://www.goodyeartires.com/cfmx/web/goodyeartiresel/details.cfm?product=354 (expand tire sizes at the bottom)

And then again, I may just be really confused, as I'm not used to the height x width dimensions for tires.

You 4 cyl will handle 32s or 33s if it has the right gears. To find out visit http://www.brian894x4.com/Gearratiosanddiffs.html

If you have 4.10s you should be fine but may notice a slight drop in power especially at high speeds. If you have gears like I did 3.58s - I would re gear. I don't think that wide of a tire will clear with factory backspacing. You may need wheel spacers or go with a narrow tire like a 33x10.50.

But if you have a 16" rim go with something like 285/75/16. It is about a 32.75 and 11.5 inches wide. But you still may need some wheel spacers. Also will need to do the pinchweld mod.... look it up.

Also I am not sure if you can mount a 11.50 or 12.50 tire on the factory rim because I believe it is only 7 inchs... so you may want to find that out. I think you need at least an 8 inch wheel

I just recently got some 265/75/16 duratrac's load C and even with the V6 there is a very noticeable loss in power over the 265/70/16. I am also up in Colorado so driving up to the trails at 9,000 ft does not help either. I have no personal experience driving the 4 banger but I imagine those 33's would make it a complete slug without a re-gear.

Wheel spacers are going to be a necessity with that wide of a tire. Check out Spidertrax.

    4.30s are perfect for a 32s or 33s.

gonna be in CO in a week for a month long stay. I have worked at a ranch in McCoy for the past few summers and i'm just going out for a month this summer. Some of the money earned will be going towards these wheels and tires haha

Don't get me wrong these tires are awesome! They are about as close to a mud tire as AT's come, but they for sure are heavy and run a bit larger than other manufacturers tires. Have fun in Colorado, the wheeling out here is great.

If you are already in Colorado you could stop by Spidertrax and pick up some spacers, they have some blemished ones going for 80 bucks.

will he really need spacers if he is running a non-stock wheel with 3.75" of back spacing?

I'm running 285/75R16 MTs now on a stock 4 Runner wheel (on my 01 Tacoma). The truck's got an add a leaf in the rear and 2.5 inch blocks on the front springs and the drivers side front tire rubs the frame a tiny bit when the wheel is cut all the way. I also trimmed a very minor amount of the plastic inner fender at the back outer edge because it was rubbing there too. Funnily enough, that's the only wheel that rubs at all tho. You soon get used to the full cut problem and just don't do it anymore. Hope this helps!
