Has anybody tested hill assist?

I was testing the hill assist system and let the truck roll backwards in drive and instead of the brakes auto engaging to stop you like it is supposed to do. My truck shuts off leaving you rolling backward without power brakes or steering. It shuts off in forward or reverse if I drive up my short driveway stop by braking then let go of the brake.
It takes about a quarter tire rotation then jumps and stalls instead of applying the brakes and slowing down.

I've got an '11 and i've tested mine a bit before. If it's on a slight incline it will hold itself if you stop the truck using the brake and then let go of it. Scary is that if you slowly let off the brake it will begin rolling backwards without any braking assist. I tried this on a steeper hill and the truck rolls back, the ABS seems to be kicking on and off trying to stop it, but not putting enough braking force to do so, and then the truck stalls out.

I tested from drive to park at 65 mph. It shuts off then and makes a loud clicking as you roll to stop .

Yup, it is. Just letting the OP know how it was on the 2nd gens. And that it was similar to his experience. Have you tried on your 3rd gen? The OP would probably like to hear some people's experiences so he knows what to expect.

That must be a 3rd gen thing... I couldn't seem to get it past reverse when I tried that.

South bound on I 65 in Montgomery, wreck happened in front of me. Poor little Hank, my miniature schnauzer, turned into a 17lb ballistic missile from his bed in the back seat during rapid deployment of the braking system. Seems to be the right amount of force when applied to the shifter to shift into park from drive at 65mph. We were both fine, he was just like "WTF BRUH?"

Yikes, thankfully you and the pup came out ok. How about your truck and transmission?

Going strong, pulled trees all day today in Marianna, Fl. helping clean up after Michael. Never noticed it doing anything out of the ordinary since then. That was about 6k miles ago.

Why are people putting it in park while driving? That seems like a pretty dangerous thing to do.

Ok... this actually made me laugh out loud. Got some looks here at work this morning.

As for the subject at hand as far as i understand it and have experienced this system will only hold you from rolling back after you have applied the brakes and have held them for a certain amount of time. It will not apply the brakes for you while you are rolling backwards.

Yes. I had a '17 Sport. Hillstart assist kicked in and held the truck. On my '18 Offroad it rolls back slowly and you hear the grinding of the brakes which is normal. If yours is shutting off I would take it to the dealer.

The system does apply the brakes while rolling forward or backward to prevent you from rolling. It explains this in the manual.

I have an appointment. It stalls forward or backward around the third clicking noise of the braking system. Thanks for the feedback.
